Re: Head gasket replacement RHZ..
I have been looking on Youtube, thought there was sure to be a video but can't find one, worth having a look though. I did have a 406 Haynes manual but I lent it to someone .... Most head gasket swaps are similar, mainly a question of disconnecting everything, exhaust, fuel system and cooling system...

Re: Unknown Braking Problem
I wonder if the pedal return spring has come off or broken? or if something is holding the pedal down?
Marvellous cars those I have had several, best cars Peugeot made in my opinion.

Re: Head gasket replacement RHZ..
Try driving it with the pressure cap loose, this can relieve the pressure and stop it blowing the water out. Depends on how bad the leak is but I ran and XM like this for quite a few thousand miles. This will of course lower the boiling point of the coolant but providing you don't thrash it or take ...

Re: 2.1 TD - Bosch Conversion
You will probably need the Bosch injection pipes as well, I changed one on a BX and it wouldn't run with the Lucas ones, the injection order is different, fine when I changed them.

Re: Unknown Braking Problem
The pressure release hole is in the master cylinder, when thr piston goes right back it uncovers a small hole which allows the fluid to run back into the reservoir. Its usually oil contamination that causes the rubbers to swell.

Re: Unknown Braking Problem
I was going to say that you have a front brake intermittently binding but if the brake light is coming one that would suggest pressure in the system. A failing master cylinder could cause, if the rubbers have swollen they could be blocking the pressure release hole. Any particular conditions that ca...

Re: increase in coolant operating temperature after drain, flush, bleed and refill
I had a similar problem with an XM some years ago, it persisted for many miles until one day 'up north' all the lights came on including 'stop' and it had indeed blown most of the water out of the overflow, I refilled it and drove it with the filler cap loose, temperature went back to normal and I d...

Re: Brake booster RHD
I had mine fail some time ago and it was so difficult to get out because of the linkage behind the engine I got rid of the car, it had done well over 200,000 miles though. I had thought about fitting a stand alone one if I could find the space but didn't pursue it. Peter https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/4...

Re: Rear brakes upgrades?
I ran 406's for about 10 years and always found the brakes adequate, the only problem was the handbrake, I found the cure for this just before I sold my last one. You need to remove all the 'slop' from the rear cables, having set the wheel adjusters, adjust the rear splitter until there is only just...

Yes I gathered that - eventually That surround should be there somewhere I will have another look for it, I don't remember taking it out - but then I don't remember much nowadays.

Re: Anyone breaking a 406?
Yes mine does appear to be different, it doesn't have the red - whatever it is to the right of the display. Sorry. The surround for the radio appears to be missing although it maybe in the car somewhere, I will have another look.

Re: Anyone breaking a 406?
I've been and had a look, I'm not sure what this plastic to the right of the display is looks like part of the dashboard unless you mean the radio surround which doesn't appear to be there although it might be somewhere else in the car. I haven't taken the steering wheel off yet so don't know what t...
