Re: OEM wheels for brembo V6
"upgrade" is not the correct word to use there... The soggy, squeally, expensive and difficult-to-maintain brembo brakes are by far the worst part of the v6 coupé. When I had mine I wished I'd upgraded to brakes from any other 406.

Re: and today i have mostly been...
The cable looked pretty screwed (!) and I tried to replace it but I just couldn't get the old one to budge, it's pinched in the corner I guess. So I managed to pull enough through to rejoin it. I guess if it goes again we'll have to think of something else. It's probably twisted itself into a ball ...

Re: pp2000 maf sensor readings
It's been a while but I'm almost certain PP2000 like most diag interfaces is just a serial over usb interface running at a relatively low baudrate - certainly nowhere near the 12Mbps capability of USB1.0. Also, like many other dealer diag interfaces, it's slow as hell to do most things - especially ...

Re: Worsening driving standards
I have a long running debate with Mrs_Welly, when I learnt to drive in 1987  the Highway Code clearly stated that if the roundabout was clear of traffic then you may take the easiest route through it (ignoring marked out lanes etc) now I still do this because I HATE the feeling of going 'aroun...

Re: Hello from Spain.
Last I saw of the cnuts at the coupe club forum was when they put forth the idea of charging for access to HOWTOs, a number of which I'd written. Er, no.
Told them to delete mine and f*ck off!

Re: Air Con
When I had AC woes some years back I found the pipes nearly impossible to remove, and 2nd hand replacements nearly impossible to fit due to galvanic corrosion - where the aluminium AC connector plate chemically welded itself to the steel compressor, and the steel springs used in the pip-to-pipe snap...

Re: GDPR emails
About 2% of the whole customer base have unsubscribed, all customers who made one purchase, years ago, and have not returned. People doing a spring clean of all the no-longer-relevant marketing they receive. It's a good time to be cutting down on spam. Just about everyone else took no action, nothi...

I swear by good quality zip ties. Lots of them - drill your own holes if necessary.
There's usually 2 parts to OEM fixings - the fastener's only half the story. If the retaining part (captive nuts etc) is knackered, brand new fasteners won't be worth anything.

W218 CLS63: Stated 37 mpg, actual 16 mpg. Damn. Loud pedal is WAY too good... :supafrisk: I went north on the M6 over the weekend. 25 or so miles of 50mph SPECS cameras. Turns out the biturbo can do 36.8mpg at 50mph. I expected a lot more, but I think as with nearly all modern cars (think "Dieselga...

Re: Peugeot 508 2.2HDi GT - talk to me...
I'd still argue that in an extra-urban scenario the petrol will not get anywhere near it's figures so the gap is much wider. Why not? (almost) every petrol car I've had has exceeded the stated extra-urban by some margin on runs: 406 2.0T: Stated 28 mpg iirc, actual 38.4 mpg 406 V6: Stated 37 mpg, a...

Re: Peugeot 508 2.2HDi GT - talk to me...
I was rather surprised when I read the specs for new 508 (attached) how close patrol is to diesel now. Nice figures. Going to add petrolprices.com's daily average of 124.4 unleaded and 127.2 diesel (£5.66 and £5.78/gallon) Taking extra-urban, that's 9.22p per mile for petrol, or 7.98p/mile diesel. ...

Re: Peugeot 406 Coupe EV conversion
Wow that's a project and a half! I've been away from pugs for a long time now, but iirc VAN used a really weird baud rate, so you won't find anything off the shelf that'll speak it. If you've got a decent digital scope, you should be able to read the bus and possibly work out what you need to fake t...
