My 2,1 and the 2,0 HDi have hydraulic clutches (almost the same gearbox too AFAIK), I have no problems engaging reverse, unless I get too keen and try shoving it in before the layshaft stops spinning - crunchy! I did read 406's had horrible gearchanges, I seem to have lucked out on that one! :cheesy...

Ride is all down to personal preference, I find mine fine on the rubbish roads they have here, it handles ok but I don't get whiplash going to the supermarket, so I wouldn't mess with it. TBH it's a bit weird you reckon your 4 year old car needs new suspension, unless it's got intergallactic mileage...

Mine seemed to be taking it's time the first winter, in traffic ok but on the move nothing but cold air, so I changed the thermostat. Or would have changed it if it hadn't been MISSING All problems solved after one fitted.
