Re: Project HaeThere! (Coupé restoration)

I'm totally non-mechanical (barely know what a bolt is, and own practically no tools barring a screwdriver and a hammer), but shouldn't the bolt go in from the top?

That would maybe stop it's gravity-assisted descent (what with the head of the bolt being wider than the hole).

Re: Clean engine bay!

Shiny! 8)

I'm jealous, I want a V6

Ecosse Peugeot offers a V6 upgrade (i.e. replacement of existing engine for a Peugeot 3.0 V6) but it's £5500 and I think that's a little too much for my budget (i.e. f***-all).

Re: What have you fixed or replaced on your 406?

I've replaced the wheels and the ICE head unit.

No other changes or repairs have been needed in the 4 months I've had the car - long may that continue.

Just passed the 33,000 mile mark today 8)

I added another 350 miles to the clock over the weekend (trip from Aberdeen to Glasgow and back), which I did on a full tank of petrol.

Re: peugeot 206 vortex 17" wheels - will they fit our 406's (off

I dunno if this helps, but I put a set of 307 Rapier alloys on my 406. They look nice, and the car doesn't feel any different to drive. But I don't know what the offset is on these, nor do I know what it was on the 406 steels I just got shot of.

Is it something I need to worry about?

Re: Coupé audio setup

Can't you just take it to Halfords and get them to fit it?

My son had to tell me last week that there's a courtesy light over the back seats. I've had the 406 since November...

My excuse? I've never been back there 8)

Re: newbie here

Welcome Owik! :) I had a D8 1.8 16v and to be honest it was totally gutless. They did improve the D9 version but if you're going petrol I'd get the 2L 16v :) Dunno about the D8, but I like the D9 well enough (the D9 got the EW7 engine, the D8 had the XU7). There's a few horsepower difference in it ...

Re: K&N Induction Kits

Oooh, crumbs. Best leave the stock filter as-is then. Why are these things so popular if they don't seem to have any noticable benefit? And how does it negatively affect fuel consumption? I had thought that if a performance filter is supposed to increase the efficiency of the engine, you would recei...

Re: newbie here

Welcome to the madhouse! :) I've never driven a diesel 406, but I'm totally loving the 1.8 petrol. Mine is a Phase 2 model, saloon configuration, you'll see them referred to here as D9 models, or Facelift models - so I have the 1.8l 16-valve fuel-injected engine that produces 115 HP. It doesn't look...

K&N Induction Kits

Hi all, In my first effort to secure a little extra oomph (and I guess some fuel economy) from my 1.8i 406, I have been looking at air filters and induction kits. Spotted this one from K&N, which seems to be specific to the naturally-aspirated 1.8i 406 range (both D8s and D9s, from 1995 to 2000), wh...

Re: Engine pic request for the wiki

OK, you were right enough - the D9s got the EW7 J4 - 1.8 16V, so that's what I've got.

I've added the pic and a little description to the Wiki. Not the best photo ever, but it will do, at least for now.
