Re: Now look who's got a Volvo...

Looks very comfortable. Due to the lack of 406's at a sensible price I've bought a c220 cdi estate, very similar to the 406 in simplicity, no DPF or DMF goes well and returns better mpg than the 406 and it has a timing chain. Before you delete me we still have a 406, the wife's car - and mine a lot...

Re: 1.6HDi coming our way - Please Help!

My feeling is to leave it alone now..... Would tend to agree. Here's what parkers.co.uk says about the gearbox on C4.... "....Summer 2006 saw the introduction of an automatic gearbox called EGS (or Electronic Gearbox System). This works like a standard automatic but also gives the driver the option...

The Price of Diesel

I've noticed recently, almost out of the corner of my eye, that the difference between the price of petrol and that of diesel seems to be increasing. Generally, I've tended to assume the gap to be around 4 to 6 pence a litre. However, last week, I'm sure it was about 10p a litre gap at a local Asda ...

Re: and today i have mostly been...

No one ever bullied me in my dark green 406. It always did have some 'battlescars', but whenever I'd drive down the 1.5 car width rural rat-runs in my area, almost everyone would dive for the passing places. The car looked a bit mean, so I guess that must have had something to do with it. It's been ...

Re: Ebay Etc. Just "Run-In" 406s

Going back a few years, if you were to type in 406 on eBay to look for a second hand one - there would be pages and pages of them. Last time I looked there was about 10 for sale.... Either there are not many left, or the people that own one are hanging onto it as it's worth more to them than...

Re: Pointy Indicators on modern cars

Makes me wonder who'll be the first manufacturer to make a back to basics, affordable, electric 'People's Car',
that's bang up to date with technical excellence, but none of this stylistic excess.

Tyre Pressure Gauges

For about 30 years, up until about the time I bought my 406 in 2012..., I owned a traditional pressure gauge.. a PCL ( Pneumatic Components Ltd ) pencil type, with the sliding column that the pressure pushes out. Then I thought.., time to go digital, so bought a £6 no brand item on eBay. In use, I w...

Seller sounds exhausted by the never ending requirement to spend large

Re: New 'stricter' MOTs...

I put my Golf in for a full pre-mot a few weeks ago. I've owned the car for 7 months, so although I have all the records from the previous owner, the car and make are relatively new to me ( I owned a Golf Mk2 GTI 16V almost 30 years ago ).... And I wanted to get an idea of just how deep the upcoming...

Re: Rare Peugeot 406 HPI PETROL FOR SALE

Well, eBay is the place if you want a quick sale. Over the years, I've owned a few cars that were a little bit special. In their condition, or rarity, or something about their history. I've thought that everyone else would instantly recognise that and snap the car up. Often that doesn't immediately ...

Re: Cleaning leather

On the black leather in my HDI Executive, I used Autoglym Leather Cleaner. Followed by Autoglym Leather Care Balm. I was never clear in my mind if the care balm did any good, as I think the leather in the 406's is covered by some kind of gloss artificial coating that leather treatment has no effect ...

Re: MOT

I probably wouldn't. For emissions, I generally put some cleaner, Cataclean, Millers.. there's an infinity of these things..., into a full tank a week or so before the MOT. On the day, I give the car a bit of an Italian tune-up on the nearby M5. 6 or 7 miles to the next junction and back. Then into ...
