Re: Stiff Stearing

There is possibly another u/j at the bottom of the column outside on the top of the rack.

Re: HEEEEEEELP!!!!!

The alternator may not be dying but intermittently giving a low output, the only way to check is with a meter monitoring. The alternator has an electronic regulator which can go faulty.

Re: HEEEEEEELP!!!!!

As an interim measure try connecting a voltmeter to the cigar lighter socket and monitor it when the fault occurs. You should have around 14.4 volts with the engine running if it drops much below that you could have an alternator problem. The electronics are very sensitive to voltage regulation. Peter

Re: good deal or not

That would suggest that either they are out of balance or you have a deformed tyre, check them for bumps, especially the tread.

Re: knock from front end

Sounds as though your right hand calliper is seized - or your tyre is soft.

Re: MoT fail

Mine have bedded in until about half the lining has gone on one side, and yes, they are fully releasing. They only seem to work well for the first couple of hundred miles from adjustment. Occasionally if you pull the hand brake up when moving slowly they will lock.

Re: MoT fail

I have yet to find a 406 with a decent handbrake. When I bought mine I fitted new discs/drums, new shoes and pads and new cables and its still not much good. If I adjust the shoes immediately before the MOT it passes but doesn't last long.

Re: How to pass MOT emissions test

I always thrash mine on the way to the test as normally I drive very gently and accumulate a lot of soot in the exhaust, it doesn't take much to get rid of it, two or three bursts of full throttle at fairly high revs and you will see the exhaust clear.

Re: Clarion Radio FM died :-(

I had no training I was just mad about radio and latterly TV and in the '50s when I started if you could repair TVs you could get a job, and fortunately I could. I still only really understand valves, since I retired 10 years ago technology has passed me by. The only exam I have passed in my life wa...

Re: Clarion Radio FM died :-(

There are some good cheap radios on ebay along with facia plates. I've got a very nice Pioneer complete with a USB input for not much over £40.00. I was a TV engineer for 50 years but I don't think I would bother with trying to repair it, although you sound considerably better equipped than me - I s...

Re: how to refill eloys tank 406 coupe

I did mine on the C5 and it was quite simple, I think there is a cover that you can remove but it may have a pipe attached to it.
