Re: Fingers crossed for Rufus

Cat's seem to spend there time alongside your living but dogs are part of your family. This depends very much on the cat. We've had at least one ultra-aloof cat, but most of ours have been determined to follow us about and involve themselves in what we're doing in much the same way our two dogs had...

Re: Celica Woes

I'd rather have a genuine, brand new part. It's going to cost me, but I just want it fixed and working. The garage ordered the part, so hopefully it's still available and in stock. Might have the steering sorted tomorrow. Clutch change is still set for Tuesday. Hopefully get a fairly sorted Celica b...

Re: Celica Woes

Apparently it's neither the rack nor the pump. There's a pipe that's corroded to basically nothing, and the power steering is heavy because the fluid is seeping through a gradually expanding hole, meaning the longer I drive it, the less effective the power steering system becomes, until there's no f...

Re: Celica Woes

I checked the power steering fluid level; looked fine. The aux belt looked OK too. Not sure whether I should hope it's the power steering pump or the steering rack ...

Re: Celica Woes

Well that didn't exactly go according to plan. Firstly, the person who last did up the wheel bolts appears to either have used a pneumatic wossname to do it, or was a bloody gorilla. The telescopic tool I use to remove the wheel bolts on the Coupe (and used to use on the lad's now-defunct Focus) doe...

Re: Celica Woes

The pedal's not heavy. That's the first thing I noticed different about the Coupe after its clutch change (other than how it was driveable again) - how light the pedal felt afterwards. I'm planning on doing the brake pads tomorrow, but with today being the 1st of July in Scotland, what do we get? f*...

Re: Celica Woes

Yep, it can be driven right now, but it isn't being driven, because having your car arrive at the garage on the back of an AA low-loader isn't anyone's idea of fun. Mine was on the back of the AA low-loader all the way from Glasgow to Aberdeen. From the lorry's passenger seat, I could see all the ot...

Re: Celica Woes

None that I saw, unfortunately. At least it hasn't died completely; you can drive it, but it's not fun. When mine went on the Coupe, there was no warning at all; just a horrible noise and a sudden inability to put it into any gear, thankfully just as I was trying to put it into reverse to park it. H...

Celica Woes

So. Couple weeks ago, we ended up buying a (2000) Toyota Celica 1.8 VVT-i (1ZZ-FE engine, 140 HP), 7th generation, in Astral Black; the lad paid for it himself. Lovely car, looks in great shape, no rust to worry about (that's what killed the lad's Focus). Except that its clutch is now slipping, so i...

Re: Suddenly a deer...(pictures)

My Coupe was used (by its previous owners) to write off a perfectly good badger. At 60 MPH. Similar levels of damage were inflicted as in your case; the car was given a new front bumper, radiators, fans, piping, and I think even the sump took a knock and was repaired or replaced. Worryingly, I think...

Re: Still running on me Winter Tyres!

Where exactly does the oil end up? It's not caked all over the engine bay, it's not dripping off the bottom on to the driveway, it's not sprayed all over the inside of the bonnet sound-deadening. It's just - not there anymore. Is it maybe misting (under the pressure) and going out via the exhaust va...

Re: Still running on me Winter Tyres!

I've read that about the Celicas; apparently it's less of an issue with the 190 HP version (and later revisions of the 140 HP engine), but the lad has gone for the 140 HP version due to insurance. He's now insured on it, so all that's left to do is go down there, hand over the monies, receive the lo...

Re: Still running on me Winter Tyres!

Thing is, we don't have anywhere to keep a spare set of wheels or tyres. So I think he's going to have to drive the Celica on the winters and change them for decent all-weathers when the winters wear out. It passed an MOT today, so it has a year's ticket, with the sole advisory being that one or mor...
