Re: bsi, maf, egr, ecu, ect.

I hate TLAs. I remember asking a similar question of a friend some years ago. A few days later he turned up with seven pages of A4 full of them. http://www.carbibles.com/automotiveabbreviations.html This one has most if you can be bothered to trawl through.Enter acronym in search box at the top. htt...

Voltmeter Fitted

I finally got round to fitting a voltmeter in place of the blank switches next to the mfd. Unfortunately, I wired it into the radio ignition feed as this seemed the easiest way to do it. Consequently I don't get to see cranking voltage. Interestingly though, it does show just how long the glow plugs...

Re: My DiagBox/PP2000 setup experience

I installed my PP2000/DiagBox to my laptop, but, because of partitioning, I only had a 25GB C partition, and it was a bugger removing stuff to make room for it. I did get it working OK, and one of the things I remember was that it gave me two icons on the desktop to find the drivers, and fire up the...

Re: My new mowtah

Those talking ones drive me mad too. Years ago we had a works hack with a dodgy voicebox. First time I drove it, it told me that there was no oil pressure. (Just off Marble Arch in heavy traffic.) It lasted till I managed to pull over without causing major hold-up, and I phoned in. Was told it alway...

My understanding is that most paint finishes are around the 90 - 120 microns thick, and they are trying to get down to 60. I know that some showrooms are told to move the cars around to even the fade...

Re: DPF Cleaning video confusion

We used to do a similar thing in motorcycle workshops with clogged two-stroke exhausts*. The flame is being drawn along the pipe burning crud which is being expelled by the motor. OK if you happen to have the kit around, and your neighbours don't mind the smoke! *A large nozzle on the acetylene weld...

Re: That feeling when you chip your brand new Windscreen

The guy who fitted mine told me that it was worth around the £140 mark, and that there would probably be a fitting cost of £30 to £40. It could be fitted FOC if I drove to their 'depot'.

Re: The plastic theives.

Considering the cost of a cllaim for front-end damage, and buying the bits second-hand, it does kind of explain why these parts are being stolen. I wonder how easy it was for those parts to be removed? Although, years ago, when a friend was on holiday, a pantechnicon turned up and completely strippe...

Re: That feeling when you chip your brand new Windscreen

I had two chips sorted on different occasions, and a new screen fitted in March last year. The chips cost nothing, and the screen cost me a £70 excess. On each occasion I checked with my insurer that it would not lead to an increase of my premium before I had the repairs carried out. In actual fact,...

Re: I installed a boost gauge!

I fitted one on my 306, and found that when cruising at 70, it showed no boost at all. A different story when trying to join 70mph traffic from a side turning on the A1!

I think it must be one of the longest-running continuous production car makers. Since the 1890s, but began building 'one-offs' before then.

Re: Top Gear's back this Sunday 25th Jan

I watched the BBC iPlayer 'An Evening With Top Gear' last night. It is a bit of a 'taster' for the new series. Interesting.

Re: LED Rear lights

I did a while back. I got the wife out to put her foot on the brakes to check them, and found them to be very dim. In fact they were so dim, you could hardly tell the difference between brakes on and off. I put the originals back and they have stayed. I do know that they have come on in leaps and bo...

Re: Welly receives new 'NEW' H7 Bulbs

I had a MK1 Humber Sceptre some years ago. It had 'dippable' warning lamps, and you could turn the dash lamps off. It was brilliant for night driving. I have been toying with the idea of putting a switch next to the dash dimmer to turn them off.
