Re: and today i have mostly been...

I got similar MPG over the weekend when we went to Skye in the BMW. 620 miles, around 34 MPG, from a naturally-aspirated 3.0 straight-six petrol 5-series. When my aunt passed away, we went down to Bath for her funeral, and I rented a Hyundai i30 with a 1.6 petrol engine. It was quite a nice car, to ...

Re: Worsening driving standards

I know this is rich coming from a BMW driver (I have heard all of the jokes, believe me - and I actually *do* use my indicators properly, thanks very much), but for the love of all things holy, please use your god damned indicators. It's not difficult, expensive, or time-consuming to do. You're lite...

Just a thought - maybe the display models are deliberately busted (but in a relatively cheap-n-easy-to-fix way) to deter theft?

Like all those notices you got in the DVD aisle or in Game saying "Display case only - collect the disc at the till"

Re: and today i have mostly been...

A lot of the exchanges I used to work in had (probably still have) a different sort of UPS, usually with something interesting like "Rolls Royce" written on them... Rolls-Royce generators? No wonder our phone bills are so high! Our datacentre is backed up with a fairly large diesel generator (can't...

AEG - washing machines I discovered today at work that AEG also make uninterruptible power supply units (battery backup for server and network equipment) I discovered it today because the one that was providing backup supply for one of my company's buildings decided "Sod it" and died. The equipment...

Have you taken up the slack on the throttle cable?
I did this shortly before selling my Coupe, it made a hell of a difference. In fact, I should probably have had the throttle cable replaced with a brand new one; I suspect it would have made a bigger difference.

I'm guessing that list contains (amongst other names) the names of everybody who has ever been evil to cats. And rightly so - the bastards. Too right they're all different. I mean, they're all cats, and all exhibit cat-like behaviour, but they definitely have their own personalities. Mum's current c...

Re: Worsening driving standards

The one that still grinds my gears is the "Oh, I'm doing 60 MPH in the left lane, and you're perfectly legally overtaking me in the right lane? I better speed up, so that you can't" crowd. Oh, and the "I, being of at least 80 years old, will drive at exactly 40 MPH down these twisty B-roads at peak ...

As per forum rules you are not allowed to buy a Ford after your 406 ownership, it must be a Volvo, you will have 14 days to correct your mistake before your continued membership goes to committee. ... I guess I'm equally screwed :D I've had the BMW over a year now. Time flies! Other than an inciden...

... or the other one which really gets me nice and pissed off - when I'm overtaking someone who's doing 60 MPH, and they accelerate up to 70 MPH as I'm beside them. SO many people do that now it's unreal - young people, old people, professional drivers, women, men, mums with cars full of kids. We're...

Re: The Beast from the East

Nowhere near as much snow in Aberdeen as was predicted, but just a couple miles further inland and things start to look a bit scary. We had a power cut yesterday morning, starting some time between 5 and 6 am, and ending just after 7am. When driving to work yesterday morning, it was initially like d...

Re: How many cars have you owned?

Both our Clios were totally reliable. Except one time in the 1.2, where I hit a pothole on the way in to work, and the lead for the starter motor disconnected. The AA guy turned up in minutes, and had it fixed within about 10 seconds. The only other thing wrong with the 1.2 was that the plastic trim...

Re: How many cars have you owned?

She bought me that car as a surprise, as something I could learn to drive in. At that point, I had no idea I would be taking driving lessons - it seemed like a goal that was entirely out of my reach, being that we were kinda hard up. I worked a minimum wage job for BT (via Manpower) at a callcentre,...

For those with an intact FAP - how long (roughly) does your Eolys tank last between top-ups, and how much (roughly) does it cost to top up?
