I was given a very nice 09 plate Volvo S40 to swan about in by my insurance Co within days and they didnt ask for it back til well after the settlement cheque h...

Thank you all! All hints help and advice were indeed very gratefully received. She's done another 10,000 miles plus since these pics were taken, wheel alignment was done shortly after and found to be sound as a pound.

Re: She won't start no more....
The spare battery has been trickle charging for 3 days on an Opti Mate charger and to my great surprise the indicator was showing charged this morning so I gave it another go. Its +5°C Rather than swap the batteries out I used jump leads to prevent losing remote central locking codes (which happened...

Re: starting my 406 hdi - how to in the cold??
I would estimate its two cranks per second or there abouts.dogslife wrote:What's the cranking speed like?
The Missus' squashcourt (2.0 dCi) sounds like its delivering 4-6 cranks a second.
Tired starter perhaps?

I hear a "vrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrb" then nothing. (That must be it!) Here goes then. (It's 3ºC...

Re: starting my 406 hdi - how to in the cold??
I have the same problem. Over thirty cranks before the ol' gal fired up this morning. First thought was the battery. Sixty five English pounds later and not a ha'porth of difference (oh well, got a spare for emergencies now). Change the glow plugs you say? Oh whats that? Don't change the glow plugs ...
