Re: Starting troubles...
The original problem I had was failing to start when hot, I thought it was probably the HP pump so I changed it and it cured the problem. When I later used the regulator off this pump for another fault, low and behold it wouldn't start when hot - so I changed the pump for nothing, mind you it did en...

Re: HDi 110 - Valeo solid flywheel conversion
Interesting posts. I have two 2.0. Hdi's one in a 406 and the other in a C5, they have both done around 200k miles but as far as I know still have the original clutches and DMFs. I notice they both have a vibration around 1500 rpm if you are pulling hard and I am wondering if this is a fault or a ch...

Re: 2.0 hdi 110 rattle
If it sounds like diesel knock I would suspect injectors. There are some very cheap ones on ebay.

Running on was one of the problems that a replacement regulator cured.

Oh right, as the post was headed '2.1 td head anyone?' I thought that was what he wanted. There are plenty of Hdi heads about.

Re: Lights flickering when idling
Connect a meter across the battery, you should have a steady reading of around 14.4 volts with the engine running, if its varying much you probably have an alternator problem. It could also be caused by a bad connection or slipping drive belt.

Re: HDI 90 Alternator belt
I always seem to have difficulty getting the right belts, I have taken to finding the length by wrapping a piece of string around the route and measuring it...or you could of course measure the one you have if no writing is visible.

Re: hi
The pressure sensor on the HP pump has been a source of trouble to me, several times, not that it hasn't started at all but it has caused difficulty in starting especially when hot. Its held on to the pump with two screws, possibly torx or allen and is quite easy to remove. You can get secondhand on...

Re: Burning Clutch Smell
Don't know why that should be, the smell is directly proportional the amount of lining that's burning off and this is a function of revs times load applied. I would suggest you stop and apply the handbrake if you are going to be held up, it doesn't take long to burn a clutch out.

Re: 2.1 td head anyone?
Oh dear, sorry to hear that, to tell you failure very rare doesn't help much then  I scrapped a couple of XMs with good engines a couple of years ago - but that doesn't help much either, I still have one but am hoping to get it back on the road again. A head from an XM or Xantia should be OK a...

Re: 2.1 td head anyone?
It is very unusual for a 2.1 head to crack, after all the problems with the 1.9 the 2.1 was redesigned to improve circulation and prevent air pockets. I ran 2.1 XMs for about 15 years and probably 300,000 miles but never had a head crack although a couple of them I inadvertently boiled, one of them ...
