Re: Wheel Bearing roulette - Volvo woes

Yes, it's true that the noise can go on without issue for a while, but be warned it is possible the bearing could seize, after all, the lubricant no longer exists! I recently replaced the rear wheel bearing on a Fiesta (yes, another Ford :))... 2 weeks previous I had warned the customer that the bea...

Re: 406 HPi

Had a word with my diagnostics guy this morning (he checked the ECU for me last time the car was here) he reckons I should take note of what the BSI has stored in it as the ECU fault could be connected...I didn't do a global test last time  clearly I should have! He reckons it's time to give u...

All permanent faults GM.
I'm sort of wondering about those under carpet connections now!

Re: 406 HPi

No experience with petrol engines & PP2k, but here's my 2p worth.... Inlet manif press sensor - is it giving a reading in engine ecu parameters? I've no idea what it should read, but if it's downstream of the throttle you'd expect to see a vacuum on the overun, less at idle and little or nothing wi...

Re: 406 HPi

Oh no  I'm no help at all but I hope you get her fixed mate, keep us posted. I've ordered a fuel rail pressure sensor from the dealers...I'm gambling £80 that the sensor is faulty...I've had low fuel pressure in the recent past plus my brother broke down and the Green Flag guy told him to wait...

Re: 2 different cars, 2 oil changes, both came up short

To be fair I'd rather keep the level just below Max because max really is max so why risk going near it. Conversely if most folk took a car to a garage for an oil change and saw it was short of max they'd likely complain they'd been short-changed. Perhaps garages over-fill cars for this reason. Be ...

Re: Crankshaft pulley on 110 hdi.

Thanks Peter for the quick reply! Yes, I did read the 'starter' method. Bit daunting but obviously works. Should the ignition be disabled some way to stop the engine actually firing up? Also, does the fact I have an automatic transmission have any bearing i.e. Should this method work still? Makes n...

Re: 2 different cars, 2 oil changes, both came up short

Actually 3 oil changes over the last two weekends but the Twingo behaved itself (apart from disgracing itself with a weepy sump washer). My point is having drained (very drained) both the Citroen HDi and the Volvo, changed oil filter cartridges, and refilled using EXACTLY the manufacturers oil capa...

406 HPi

Some of you may know that my brother and I have the 406 HPi petrol which I rescued and got back on the road... Anyway, I'm having some issues with it regarding bad running, cutting out, etc. My brother locked the immobiliser jump starting a flat battery after the car had been stood for a while...I r...

Re: Non-406 1.6 TU series engine problem

Glad the TU is ok now :cheesy: The coolant level dropping is a good sign that all the air is out. Thanks GM, I hope I can sort this! I'm going over to Yorkshire tomorrow to take a look. Welly, the head gasket didn't fail...it dropped a valve in number 1 cylinder...a valve spring snapped in half! the...

Re: Non-406 1.6 TU series engine problem

Some good news on the 307. :) They found a low mileage (52k) engine from a C2 for £200 delivered with pretty much all the ancillaries. My daughter's other half and his 2 brothers rocked up this morning and set about fitting it. 10 minutes ago they got it started. :D Even better, I never laid a fing...

Re: Non-406 1.6 TU series engine problem

Not much fun working Easter :( I'm trying to retire but folks keep bringing me problems! Got the piston out this morning, it's completely smashed in half around the gudgeon pins...amazed the bore isn't scratched!! Off to the engineers tomorrow to get a costing to see if it is worth fixing. I'll let ...

Re: Non-406 1.6 TU series engine problem

Did you ever get round to sorting this out Eric? I just got round to looking at the Twingo today...took the cam cover off and found a broken valve spring and no exhaust valve in number 4 cylinder. Took the head off and found the valve seriously bashed up on top of the piston and a nice crack across ...
