Re: 406 front disc splash guards ?

What make of Front brake pads are you using? iknow it May sound daft but, some brake pads can be crap in the Wet, ive never had problems with 406 brakes, and my old 406 got driven through a river sometimes Thanks ! Not daft at all, I'd had a similar thought ( from my early bike days ) but then I th...

406 front disc splash guards ?

Are there supposed to be splash guards on the inside of the front discs ( 406 HDi , 2000 ) , like the rears ? Have just replaced the front discs/pads again and cannot see any brackets, lugs, etc, that indicate something is missing. I have googled but zero results. None of the pad sets have been groo...

Re: Battery life, 406 HDi ?

Many thanks for that Steve, but no, I hadn't read your link before . I 'm now leaning towards a new one, the cost of a battery will always be less than the cost when it dies at the most inconvienient time in the middle of nowhere ............Reading your link, is the 75ah dimensionally the same as t...

Battery life, 406 HDi ?

I'm curious as to opinions of battery life; as I spend a lot of time in the colder parts of Europe, I'm wondering if the replace battery every 3 years is sound advice or rather conservative. Useage is split between freeway and medium length trips but lights and often fan / screen heater are in use. ...

Re: Licence plate lights on a 406 estate

The intermittent contact problem appeared to be the terminal tangs were spread and don't have much " memory ". I reassembled and same problem..............removed and closed up the tangs again, was super careful not to touch the bulb when replacing the lens and all is now OK. The lamp installation i...

Licence plate lights on a 406 estate

Can someone please advise how to remove the lens, I've forgotten how I removed them when I replaced the bulbs last time... I do remember it was a royal PITA. The bulbs are OK , it's just that the lights periodically don't operate, give them a tap or "wiggle ", they come on, so I need to check...

Re: Estate rear screen heater problem

I think the problem has been fixed. When I refitted the loom spade connectors to the screen terminals I noticed that they were tight to push on but were not " secure ",i.e., they rocked on the spade terminal. I used a thin blade screwdriver between the terminal and the insulator sleeve to tighten th...

Re: Estate rear screen heater problem

I've seen them steam but I've never felt one get warm - I'll soon get an opportunity to try it I guess. Ok, how about checking the voltage across it with the heater running? If it drops significantly you're looking for a bad connection. If not then we have to assume the window heater element is in ...

Re: Estate rear screen heater problem

So you have power across the terminals, continuity across the heater element and yet it still doesn't work :? I can't see how a small amount of corrosion would stop it working. HR somewhere? Try a bulb across the terminals. It works, but it is very slow now to get warm to the touch. Before, with th...
