Re: Clock keeps resetting (and engine stalling)

First thing to check would I think be the alternator, check the battery voltage with the engine running, should be about 14.4 volts, if much less than this but increases when you rev the engine the alternator output could be down. If that's OK connect a meter to the cigar lighter socket so you can s...

Re: Handbrake issue, failed MOT

Well done. Most old cables if, you can get to them will have splits in the outer sheath, if you soak them with oil a number of times they usually will free off. The XM used to have this problem and I always managed to free them off just with engine oil, never bought a new cable in 15 years of runnin...

Sounds as though the l/h cable may be seized.

Re: ? engine intermittant loss of power

Do the brakes work well? If the servo is leaking it will diminish the amount of vacuum available.

Re: Handbrake issue, failed MOT

I have also found (just after I got rid of my last 406) that adjusting the cable length central adjustment will improve the hand brake, adjust it as tight as you can without it binding, that brings the handbrake lever nearer the floor. Whether it actually improves the efficiency or its because you c...

Re: New 406 Owner

Probably the best car Peugeot ever made, certainly the most reliable I ever had, they also have good ride quality compared with most modern cars. I ran 406 Hdi estates for about 10 years and never had to worry about them, just got in and drove. We now have two C5 estates as the ride on those is supe...

Re: Fuel pump cover removal

Yes it is tight, it possibly hasn't rotated far enough but its difficult to put enough force on it without chewing up the plastic. Ideally you need to make up a tool that will fit several of the notches unless you can find something that will fit.

Re: New car ponderings

The Mk3 C5 estate is a large and very comfortable car but the seating is not all that high and there are not many about, they stopped making them in 2017. I bought one this year and my wife was so impressed with it I bought another one. Its the steel sprung model but rides almost as well as the hydr...

If they are all reading about the same they are probably OK. As frog says its difficult to get an accurate reading at that lower resistance, often because you can't get a good enough connection.

Heater blower eased.

Never had this problem all the while I was running them but this is one of my 'exes' now belongs to a friend. I have 14.0 v on the two pin plug on the motor but nothing on the control voltage connections. The control unit displays are working as normal but no input it seems to the motor. I have a sp...

Welcome to the forum Jez, you have probably the best car Peugeot ever made - except perhaps the 'auto' bit. 406 ownership is dropping fast now which is a shame but I am sure you will find most of what you need to know on here.

Re: 2001 2.2 hdi poor hot start

There is an pressure regulator on the back of the HP diesel pump, I have had poor hot starting on a C5 caused by this, in fact mine got almost impossible to start until it cooled down. Its quite easy to change on the 2.0. but haven't done one on the 2.2 although I believe its the same regulator. On ...

Re: Lumpy at 1500rpm (hdi90)

Sounds as though its down on power on one cylinder at that speed, if you rev it to that speed stationary does the engine rock? Could be an injector fault although I have never had one but mine have all had Bosch injection. They all tend to be a bit rough at 1500 rpm but I assume this is worse than n...
