Re: looking for another 406

Are there any pitfalls with the 2.2? The 2.2 HDi has the diesel particulate filter system (DPF, also known as FAP in France), which is prone to clogging if the car isn't driven long enough to trigger regeneration cycles. The FAP system also requires occasional top-up with an additive solution that ...

Re: Satnavs or what?

weirdly seems to know about traffic up ahead and tries to find a better* route. I wonder if it came with a lifetime subscription to some sort of live update service I dunno. The BMW has this also - it's a service called Traffic Message Channel (TMC): https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Traffic_message_ch...

Re: Satnavs or what?

Google Maps is superb, really. When I first started driving, I bought a basic TomTom. Was pretty decent, definitely got us places. Later on, when Google Maps got decent turn-by-turn navigation function built-in, it could do everything my basic TomTom could. Over the years since then, it's only got b...

Re: 3.0Hdi

No experience with them, no. My understanding though is that the 3.0 HDi V6 replaced the 2.7 HDi V6 for only the last few months of 407 production. The 3.0 was more fuel-efficient and more powerful than the 2.7 - but 407s with the 3.0 are not exactly common.

Re: Service box won't take VIN

Maybe the last 7 digits are unique per country, or per world region? i.e. a Chrysler Neon may have a VIN ending 1234567, but no other US car is allowed to have that, but a French-built Peugeot 406 may also have a VIN ending 1234567. Or maybe it goes even further and the 7 digits are unique per manuf...

Re: Service box won't take VIN

SO the first half of the vin is superfluous? You learn something new etc... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vehicle_identification_number#World_manufacturer_identifier Digits 1 - 3 represent the region and manufacturer; VF = Europe, France and 3 = Peugeot Digits 4 through 8 describe the model...

Wind... in my hair... Shifting and drifting... Mechanical music... Adrenaline surge! I love Rush EDIT: also this song makes me realise that they weren't singing about some dark and dystopian Hollywood feature-film future where people aren't allowed to drive cars ... they're talking about THIS world,...

Re: Washing your own car - a dying hobby?

Round here, EVERY. SINGLE. DACIA. I've ever seen has been driven in the same way stereotypical Audi drivers drive: - driving 20+ MPH over the limit (yes, even in town) - driver either wearing huge over-ear headphones or holding a mobile phone to their ear - driving with one hand (well, a couple of f...

Re: 2002 Peugeot 406 Coupe 2.2 Petrol - NOW SOLD

SOLD Got hit up from an ad I placed on Gumtree by a nice chap named Jakub. Says he's got plans to respray the car and get it all looking 100%. I'm torn up as hell to see her go, but it sounds like she's got a bright future ahead of her. Thanks for all the miles, all the memories, and that big goofy ...

If I had the right cashflow, I'd keep it and use it - as it is, there is no cash and no garden to keep it in.

Well, there IS, but I doubt the housing association would appreciate me parking it there :cheesy:

This is the beast: http://i.imgur.com/LfcjUqmh.jpg Taken on 17th June (the day I collected it originally), on a surprisingly nice day, just outside a Co-Op supermarket in Glasgow. Ever since then either the weather's been awful or the car's been with the dealer, so there are no other photos so far. ...

Re: Time For Change

So the 320d went back today, and I came home in my 525i again. All problems appear to have been resolved! Well... time will tell. Was absolutely pissing down with rain ALL DAY. The 320d must have been a company car for someone utterly unimportant because as well as having no optional extras, it also...
