Re: How do you clean your leather interior?

Do not use Flash or anything similar.
I have yet to be defeated with just warm soapy water and a soft cloth. After which I use either Coltsfoot oil or Neatsfoot oil to keep it supple.

Re: Door handles

Some years ago, around the mid-90s, there was a fad of superglueing broken razor blades inside flush door handles. Maybe it was some manufacturers answer to that problem. It was a prevalent enough problem at the time that those of us in the motor trade were advised to have Hepatitis C innoculations.

Re: Drivers at Roundabouts

As our area is full of Driving Schools, I learnt years ago that the only way to approach any roundabout is quick enough to keep going, but slow enough to stop if you have to. All-road-standoffs are common, but having observed the quality of teaching, I am not that surprised.

Re: How do you manage your central heating?

I leave it on set at 5 degrees when we are out for any extended period, as it is enough to stop the house and pipes freezing. As to the thermostat, we have a wireless one which works everywhere in the house. It, along with the control box, was only a few quid more than a hard-wired setup. I would li...

Re: Drivers at Roundabouts

I have also noticed that if the roundabout is too offset for our tiny brains to cope with turning the steering wheel, then it is perfectly OK to go across the wrong way into oncoming traffic. Of course it is then obligatory to scream abuse at those of us who are the oncoming traffic, and give a whol...

Re: Temperature on my 406 1.9 td

The 1'9s do suffer from being affected by ambient temperatures. It is a common complaint. Although on the positive side, they do not 'waste' fuel making heat for creature comfort, so do tend to give a better mpg.

Re: DVLA might of got it right for once

Mine ran out end of last month and I decided to go for monthly DD. A doddle to set up and I agree it is easier to cancel DD in the event of selling the car or SORN-ing it for any reason.

I too bought my last two sets of the Bay, with no problems. All the markings are there and they cost £11 a pair.

Re: 406 - inside light problem.

With the interior light switch in the middle position: The light should come on when you unlock the door. Then, when you are in, it will fade out after a while. When you get out, it should come on and fade out, but, if you get out and lock the door, it should go straight out. The other positions of ...

Re: Bigger battery?

I have a Lucas 100 650CCA 70Ahr in mine. it is a bit of a fiddle getting it in and out because of the clips which Peugeot, in their wisdom, mounted on the 'unused' part of the battery box.

Re: Merry Christmas Welly you Idiot

A friend of mine got a very obscure Mitsubishi 4 x 4 as a Jap/grey import a few years ago. Paid £4000 for it, and was offered £5000 by the dealer he took it to to order service parts. Can't remember the model name or the mileage, but it looked like a 'rounded' Shogun. Three years old. Worth every pe...

Re: ready for winter?

I used one of these. http://www.abbastands.co.uk/images/products/display/abba-bead-breaker-01.jpg As long as you take the tyre off the side of the wheel with the well, it's not really that difficult to change your own tyres. As to balancing, I know a couple of people who put some old weights on, and...

Re: Another bargain!

I always thought the point of lpg was cost. No comparison to mpg, just £per mile. I have known a few lpg cars over the years since the 70s, and all owners/drivers have complained about poor performance. Still, can't have everything.

Re: ready for winter?

Sorry, but every car should be in a state of preparedness for winter all year round. All the checks should be done on a regular basis. What a lot of people don't seem to understand is that the point of regular checks is to show them there is a problem rather than suffer a 'sudden' failure.

Re: Interesting Tools

We were issued trolley jacks with built-in locking bars during my time with the AA. They are much sturdier than that advertized one, and I have seen the odd one at car boots. I used to regularly lift heavier things than the average car with mine. I think the heaviest was a horsebox with two shire ho...
