RE:... ".... Quoted £1600 just to get the head off and assess situation from there. Further £600 if new head required. .... ". Looks to me like the quote is really saying that someone doesn't want the job, and has given you a ridiculously high quote for everything, to put you off. Long ago, I owned ...

Re: old topic, 406 replacement ?

anybody had one of these ? the pug 508, looks , full of kit , complicated ! french electrics !! :frown: I would much rather have a 508 over any Ford! The 508 will be a proper Peugeot and not full of borrowed/cheapened Ford bits. It's a shame French cars still seem to have this "electrics" stigma, m...

. Great to hear you're doing well, Welly. You mentioned , as I recall, also steering clear of grains. What did you actually mean by that ? I eat bread, but stay away from white, and stick to wholegrain . So, interested in what you meant by grains. Also cerealss ..., do you mean sweetened cereals ? ...

Re: 1.6HDi DPF tested at 10 years old, 80k miles, how bad is it?

£9995 in 2003 is coming out as about £16000 on the inflation tool I used ( officialdata something, something ). I lease/purchased a new Astra 1.3 GL in 1981. The price the lease was based on was £5000. ( about £19000 in today's money ). I'd always considered that finance was a mugs game. However, I ...

Re: A/C in winter

I only live 30 miles up the road from Taunton, and certainly in the last 2 years icing up has not been a problem. Barely a couple of days last winter when I woke to find screens with a light frost on them. The a/c never worked on my 406. However, on the frozen days of yore, my finger headed for that...

As it's now illegal, I think, to retail new ebikes that can go more than 15mph, I think the government here would have a hard job trying to go down the tax, insurance route. They're currently looking rather stupid, and retrograde, in their attempts to control the use of e-scooters. In addition, duri...

Has anyone noticed any difference after changing the fluid in any car?

Changed the PAS fluid on my 238,000 mile ( lunar module ) Golf last summer.
Used the same method as you.
Yes, it did seem to improve the feel of the steering.

Re: and today i have mostly been...

Did some shopping today, mid-afternoon. Waitrose, a long empty shelf where the toilet rolls usually are. Asked an assistant if it was like that when they started today. She said they'd had fresh supplies delivered, but everyone had descended on them this morning. All gone by 9.00. Drove to the nearb...

I'd go for Option 2, and take the refund.

Italian and modern American cars are not bywords for build quality, and neither is Fiat Chrysler.
Why go for an older one of the same if the newer one self destructs ?

Welly wrote: Wed Jan 08, 2020 3:46 pm Not sure what the deal is with those Ford TDCi engines, you either get a really good one that's quiet and behaves itself or a shitter that sounds like a bag-o-spanners and smokes.
They're Fords, sir. They're all shitters after a few years.
