Do you have any water under the drivers side carpet? It must rain sometimes in Australia.

Re: DIY Belt Change
Yep, I always do mine like that, or you can use a long 1/2" flexy bar and rest it on the ground, certainly the easiest way to get it undone. I must have changed about a dozen belts like that. I'm doing one on a C5 at the moment and believe me the 406 is a doddle compared with that. When I undid the ...

Re: New car??
If you have a decent 406 I would stick with it, I think they are the best car Peugeot ever made.

Re: Immobiliser fault issue resolved
The usual way for water to get into the car is via the interior door panel seal. If the panel is taken off for maintenance for any reason and not fully sealed when replaced, the water that gets past the window seal drips onto the back of the panel, runs down it and drips off at the bottom of the doo...

Just check that you don't have water under the drivers side carpet, there are a number of connectors under there.

Re: Sudden loud rattle, engine cuts off, then restarts after a few minutes
My sons Ford Ranger has a similar problem if it has been standing for some time, no compression, wont start and rotates very fast on the starter. Took the rocker cover off and everything was fine, came to the conclusion that the oil had drained out of the bores so no or insufficient compression. We ...

Cant help you with that but if you want to retain the good ride I wouldn't put bigger ones on.

Options - attachments - add files. I usually move the files to the desktop they are easier to find them. When you click 'add files' you can then select 'desktop' then the appropriate files. Or you can load them direct from their location - but you have to find them first!

Pedal vibration sounds like the clutch thrust bearing, unless you are up to taking the gearbox out I would just ignore it. Probably will fail eventually but that could be some time - or not

406 110hp saloon
A friend of mine has quite a good 406 Hdi for sale. It is at present on Sorn, been off the road for about 6 months. No rust as far as I can see and a nice interior. Good points: MOTd until next year. Recent cam belt. New rear brake backplates. Not so good points, Alternator clutch/pulley broken but ...

Re: Passed mot again!
Well done. I think my first one had done about 250k and then only failed due to BSI water ingress. Probably the most reliable car I have ever had - and the best headlights.

Re: 405 vs 406 ride quality
Does yours have 16" wheels? These don't ride as well as the 15" due to the loss of wall height, they also vary according to the softness of the tyres construction. If you look on the net you should be able to find a site that tells you which is the best riding tyre. Not tom much pressure? used to ke...
