Winscreen seal unobtanium

My 2003 406 was vandalised the other day - windscreen smashed and cracked - not repairable.

The local garage is saying that although the windscreens are available that the seals are coming up as not available. Anyone else have experience of this recently?

Re: Rock hard brake pedal !!!

The s/h part surprisingly looked ok and was fitted, car seems fine.

FWIW the garage only charged a couple of hours labour all in so they must have a few tricks up their sleeves or being able to get decent access underneath makes all the difference?

Re: Rock hard brake pedal !!!

Yeah I've had the bust rhd one alongside a LHD one, the arm is longer on the lhd one. The garage told me the rhd part is noted as 'not available' on the Peugeot parts list. I imagine you could bodge the LHD one if you were really in a fix. Anyway, tracked down a decent second from a breaker in Bulga...

Re: Rock hard brake pedal !!!

So, maybe predictably, the garage (I'm in France) are having trouble tracking down a RHD part. The part in question is the servo ATE 03.7864-2301.4 / 9640597380 I can't see one off-the-shelf on any of the parts places I normally use and the similar Bosch part (which IS available) inevitably will req...

Re: Rock hard brake pedal !!!

They're well aware how much I'm prepared to spend on a 180k car with a book price of 500 quid (on a good day). :cheesy:

Re: Rock hard brake pedal !!!

Well the garage diagnosed mine as a servo issue, so they're doing it today. ;)

Re: Rock hard brake pedal !!!

Think the servo non return valve has gone on my HDI 90 as well.

These parts are hard to track down online or am I searching for the wrong thing?

Can anyone point me in the right direction? If someone has the p/n for a servo check valve for a 2002 HDI 90 that would be grand.

Re: 406 90 HDI core plug

Its done now anyway.
Dumped all the coolant and let it drain for a day, then got as much solvent splashed around the area as possible and dried off again before putting the putty in. It seems rock solid but time will tell I spose.

Tomorrow I'll fill it up and test.

406 90 HDI core plug

One is blowing, driver's side, and I'm considering fixing it with JB chemical metal putty as the garage quote isn't viable on a 180k car.

Anyone ever done this on the 406? Looking for advice on how best to access as so far access is by touch only, I'd be working blind. Bonnet off make it easier?

Re: Alternator

An eBay 42€ jobby off a crashed 60k km 206 matched up on bosch part #s and went straight on, works lovely. The decrease in noise in with the car running is frankly staggering. I've never fitted a car alt. before so the curious split bushes on the rhs mounting bolts were a bit of a novelty, but other...

Re: Alternator

Thanks, I had a poke about and it looked straightforward, not even any seized bolts and I certainly didn't have to remove the oil filter - but its good to know for certain. :)

I've ordered a decent replacement, may rebuild the original, can't be that hard? I see a few rebuild kits on eBay.
