Re: Data has been deleted from BSI eeprom
I suspect the data is not gone, but the BSI is non-functional. EEPROMs are very hardy devices. You can perhaps swap the EEPROM into a replacement BSI, see here: http://www.406oc.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=23317&p=235612, although yours will be a bit different since it will be a semi-mux car and there...

Re: 406 HPI Estate
It was a nice piece of design and ahead of its time in some respects, but rather poorly implemented.frog wrote:What is so special about the HPI engine compared to the "normal" 2.0 16V ? 5 more HPs?
It has no real selling point other than being rare and therefore a challenge to fix!

Re: Hazard lights under hard braking?
It is a feature and it can be disabled using Planet, though to be honest I think it's best left enabled.

Re: What to do?
I'd be interested to know if virginising this EEPROM just means writing 0s over all of its memory.
This is the case for the BSI EEPROM certainly, but I would like to know if the same applies for the EDC15 one.

Do you have a link to it? And could you tell where it was coming from? The sumps and cam covers are known for leaking oil on these.

Re: The mystery console button ....
It's an access hole to release the shift lock solenoid which was prone to getting stuck on the AL4 boxes.

Failed bottom engine mount is the main suspect for this.
