Re: wanted... d9 406
Terrible photo in the rain, and car not been washed for 2 weeks. It 'gleams' when I wash, polish and wax it.

Re: wanted... d9 406
MOT till middle of August by the way. Price?! damn this is where it gets tricky. I suppose I'm open to offers, bearing in mind the ABS light is on. I'm in no hurry to get it fixed but of course it will need doing for MOT. I suspect it's the cracked passenger side reluctor ring that's causing the lig...

Re: wanted... d9 406
cost £50 to get the drivers one done in the Autumn by a local garage - inclusive of new reluctor ring, labour and VAT. Will get some photos up when the weather improves! Car has 63K on the clock, not 62K sorry. Not sure what it's worth really, low milage, good overall condition, 2 fairly new tyres a...

Re: wanted... d9 406
2.0 HDI (110) '53 plate. 62K miles. Has everything apart from full leather (has half leather). Good tyres. Good condition I'd say. In mid blue metallic. Will be for sale as soon as I get the original reg transferred back onto it, and my own plate off it (need to wait for retention document through f...

Re: Is it time to fit winter tyres?
I've had 2 all-season tyres on the front of my car since last year. Kleber Quadraxers. Fantastic during the short spell of snow we had earlier 2013, and fantastic throughout the summer. Lots of tread left I guess they'll do another year. Excellent tyre, and as I drive to the conditions, not to the m...

Re: 2.0 HDI 110 poor starting hot and cold
starter motor was knackered. New one fitted, can't believe how fast it spins over compared to the previous one which I guess had slowed gradually over time so i didn't notice it.
Car starts now within a second.

Re: 2.0 HDI 110 poor starting hot and cold
Ok, car wouldn't start this morning at all. Fuel coming through ok - checked at all fuel pipes I could find in the engine. Beginning to think starter motor might be the culprit - not spinning fast enough? When I connected a 240v powered battery booster with 'hot start' it started ok. Without it, a b...

Re: 2.0 HDI 110 poor starting hot and cold
Right, changed the sensor. No change at all in the starting stakes, although it seems to me that the car runs smoother? Maybe 'placebo' effect. Starting to lose patience with this car now so it's time to move it on. Needs this starting issue sorted, and a reluctor ring passenger side for the ABS. 62...

Re: 2.0 HDI 110 poor starting hot and cold
The new crank sensor arrived by post this morning. Is this an easy job? Anyone have any advice or tips on how to go about replacing.
I'll test the old one as per the link above before fitting the new one.

Re: 2.0 HDI 110 poor starting hot and cold
Thanks Jasper.
The injectors are fine as far as I can tell. It has also been through a diagnostic at my local trustworthy garage.
I'm hoping it's crank sensor fault and a simple case of replacing it.

Re: 2.0 HDI 110 poor starting hot and cold
Hi all, the symptoms are getting worse.
Is there an idiot's guide to test the crank sensor anywhere?
I would be grateful for any help in this.
Thanks
Impster

Re: 2.0 HDI 110 poor starting hot and cold
Ok - getting somewhere possibly.
Just done a BSI reset, and the starting is much worse after doing that, or after disconnecting the battery for any length of time.
This to me indicates electrical/ecu moreso than fuel problem.
Anyone able to shed any light?
Nothing came up on a diagnostic.
