406 HDI GLX problem seconds after a successful MOT!!!

Hello all, I am having a bit of a problem and wanted to put it out to the masses. Took the 406 in for its MOT this morning and it went through fine as expected as I've done a bit of work on it myself recently to make sure its all good. Got the call the MOT was finished and ready for collection and w...

Re: MOT point

Deano, when you say the key would need recoding do you mean through peugeot or can it be done via the ways mentioned on this forum? I dunno if this is relevant but I have just one key. Thanks for the help so far.

Re: MOT point

No, the starter motor is fine. When I put the key in I turn in to the 'on' position wait for the coils then turn to ignition. The key usually springs back to on after you turn it. In my case it doesn't it stays and I have to twist it back to 'on' manually. My question is would this fail an MOT for t...

MOT point

Hello everyone, I have a question. I have a problem with my ignition sticking when I turn the key to the on position. I have tried WD40 in it but no luck. I think my only option is a new ignition lock which seems to be expensive and has problems with the keys coding. Can anyone tell me if a sticking...

Hello, I have just been having a similar sounding problem. See my post 'another exhausting problem'. I'm not sure if you have exactly the same as me but the metal strap that attaches the metal hooks to the silencer had rusted through and fell apart. I have just used stainless steel cable ties to sec...

Thanks for all your advice on this guys. I went down the stainless steel cable ties route. Seems to be fine and to be holding firm. I read some of the more recent posts and forgot to add earlier that I have the three piece exhaust , not the two piece so at most it would have been a new rear silencer...

Mines a 2000 90hdi GLX and I get about 650-700 miles from a full tank. That’s 75% 60mph country roads and the rest round town. I've been looking into Bio-diesel for a bit and I am still not confident to give it a go. From what I have found it has a different viscosity, being thicker and less 'runny'...

Found some s/s cable ties from screw fix. I'll get some of them and give it a go. This forum never fails me. Thanks for your suggestions.

Plastic ties crossed my mine first but I guessed the heat would do them in fairly sharpish. I wasn't aware you could get steel versions. I'll look into that. Thanks for the suggestions so far.

I am always a sceptic of the dealers as I am sure they will say just that. The backbox itself is in good condition, no rush or corrosion. Thats why it seems a bit of a sod to have to buy a whole new box when I only need a strap that goes round it. I am thinking about maybe trying to make up somethin...

Another 'exhausting' car problem.

Hello everyone, whilst rummaging in my boot today I noticed my exhaust was hanging a bit low. After a look underneath I found that the metal strap round the backbox is heavily corroded and has snapped. The rear box was hanging on for dear life and I've used an old belt to hold it on for the time bei...

Sticky key

Hello all, my latest problem on my D9 HDI is that when I turn the key in the ignition to start the engine up it sticks at the engine on point and I have to click it back manually. This is not a major problem I know but it is is annoying, any ideas on how I might go about putting it right?

Oil flush.

As it was a sunny afternoon I decided to change the oil and for the first time used a oil flush. 5 mins in at idle then changed for my normal oil and filter. I was pretty sceptical about it making a difference but the drive after did seem smoother and quieter. Anyone else had any experience with the...

This comes up all the time. Had it myself not so long ago. The ambient temp sensor is in the passenger door mirror (was on mine D9 HDI). Its the little black box on the bottom of the mirror casing. Just cut out the old one and solder in a new one. The whole mirror comes off cleanly so you can ever t...

Its definately a big job. All the parts are easy enough to find though. On mine (HDI) the whole lot is on the drivers side of the engine. The belts hidden by a cover and the water pump is at the very bottom. You can find the tensioners byfollowing the belt round. Finding it and getting it off should...
