Re: AA Renewal premium rip off.
Does anyone pay the renewall quote; every year I too go through the farce of saying it's too much and then they reduce it by 60%

406 Windscreen Washer Hose
My windscreen washer pipe seems to be leaking at the union by the T-piece. The hose seems to be built into the rubber trip at the edge of the bonnet trim, rather than just being a separate piece of tubing.
Does anyone know what the part number is, before I just use some a separate piece tubing.

Re: 406 1.8 Petrol tickover
It always used to tickover at 1000rpm, I just find that if it drops below that 800rpm level into that lowlevel marked on the rev counter it cuts out ~ I will go and try the connections, again.

Re: 406 1.8 Petrol tickover
It looks like I spoke to soon
Start from cold and the tickover is steady at 1100 rpm as should be, however once the car is warm the tickover drops to about 800 rpm, which means I have a 50% chance of it cutting out when I shift into neutral when stationary ~ any suggestions.

Re: 406 1.8 Petrol tickover
Sorted - I Think I went back to jameslxdt's post: http://www.406oc.co.uk/viewtopic.php?t=3489 and repeated the initialisation routine - starting by switching on the ignition with the stepper motor disconnected. once all is together, get in the car and turn the ignition on for 30 seconds, then switch...

406 1.8 Petrol tickover
The tickover on my 406 increased to about 3000rpm, I have replaced the stepper motor as I knew it was knackered from earlier problems ~ however my tick over is now about 1800rpm rather than 1100rpm. Whilst the tickover is high it is steady with no sign of hunting (which it had before I changed the s...

Re: 406 stepper motor
Thanks Jon for looking it up, its what I thought the engine was. The trouble is that the one in the link looks exactly like the two I bought in terms of the plunger length !! After getting the 2nd one I wondered if mine just had the piston jammed in the 'out' position, so fitted one of the new ones ...

406 stepper motor
I have had problems with cut out at low revs and need to change the stepper motor (have done the temporary fix of removing the old one and cleaning it). The trouble is that the ones I have bought so far (x2) appear to be correct but the visible length of the piston shaft under the head on the new st...

Thanks for the stalk, I've fitted it and its fine. I think it is smoother than the original ever was.

406 Indicator Stalk
I have a 1996 406. Electrically the indicator stalk is fine but it is 'locked' mechanically and will not move in either direction, independent of how farthe steering wheel is turned. Whilst I apply pressure to the stalk the indicators will work but I cannot 'latch' them on. I have taken the cowling ...

Re: 406 Bonnet Release
Any chance of anyone posting a photo, or a sketch of the under bonnet layout so I know where to try and snag the cable with the coat hanger.

406 Bonnet Release
I have a problem with my bonnet release, when I pull the release lever the nearside catch releases but not the offside, I've tried the usual trick of pressing down on the bonnet while trying to release the catch, but no luck. Any suggestions?
