2.1 TD - Bosch Conversion

Are there still many tinkering at old 406s on here? The 2.1 TD although it ran reasonably well, it still has the Lucas EPIC on it, it got through an aux belt every week so in need of a new tensioner and idler, while looking at that the next step was to inspect the cambelt, and that led to pulling al...

Early 406

Ive had a stint in the 406s two sucessors. A 2015 508 SW in GT spec. Solid car, crap interior storage, a constant worry that the headlights will break and cost a 4 figure sum to fix, outdated infotaiment that liked to shut down if the heater was on, and an atrocious, truly dreadful ride quality. Als...

Re: 2.2 HDi EML

In that case, just following guide with your replacement pipe - although your ball will still need replacing, or fixing in the upright position. If the car is still a bit sluggish, I would suggest you replace the MAF - don't bother unplugging it as this doesn't help on the 2.2hdi, it only seems to ...

Re: Volvo V70

The V70 lasted about a month, fuel consumption was horrific for a daily driver at 27mpg going to work. Sold the car for what i paid to a relative and bought the 406 and a 2 post lift with change to spare :cheesy: That was back in 2018, last year i did go a bit mad and bought something also from the ...

Re: Hidden Connects2 bluetooth

Old thread but i see it thought it may aswell be completed. Yes the connects 2 unit can be fitted in behind the standard head unit. I wrapped it with an old rag and insulating tape to prevent rattles all fitted in ok. At the time i also removed the centre console drilled holes in behind the ash tray...

Re: 2.2 HDi EML

I had a quick look today, the ball joint for the swirl flap has snapped, and i see that a number of the vacuum pipes are cracked looking. IMG_6748.JPG IMG_6750.JPG IMG_6750 (1).JPG Ordered a few meters of 3mm hose on ebay and will need to fix the swirl flaps. What position is 16v; towards the radiat...

2.2 HDi EML

I am driving a 2.2 HDi estate - remap&defap etc, very close at this point to moving onto a 508 SW after a long time in 406's Anyhow i randomly get the EML light and a bit of a limp mode, well to be fair for a car that supposedly on the most powerful remap file for a 2.2 hdi it feels a bit sluggish. ...

Re: V6 ABS/ESP problems

I found the esp ecu in behind the glove box, removed it and sprayed wd40 round the contacts. Put it back in and the issues went away

V6 ABS/ESP problems

My 406 V6 (2001 Multiplex Estate)when started throws up lights/messages for the ABS/ESP system, airbag fault and the power steering is heavy. I recently replaced the alternator and battery, and what i assume to be the ABS/ESP ecu was unplugged at the time, its all plugged back in now and been inspec...

Rear door handle

The passenger side rear door handle on my estate has not opened from the outside or inside for a number of months. My dad borrowed the car for some estate car duties and when I got it back I walked up to the door in question forgetting about its fault and it opened. While opened I sprayed copious am...

Re: Wiring in a tow bar

That all came from the car I removed it from. Farmer have you bought a new kit or a second hand one? If you've boughta new kit everything you need sould be there. I bought a V6 estate with a factory fitted tow bar but looking at thw factory wiring it looks a tad hard to replicate. My motorfactors s...

Re: Gear lever failed

Problem Solved; While the cables were connected to the gear linkages on the box there is a bit further back a bracket that the cables presumably push against. This popped out, i think a clip held it in place, a couple of cable ties sorted it. Was a good excuse to get the yoke back on the lift to do ...

Gear lever failed

I have spent the past couple of days installing and wiring up a towbar in my 2.2 hdi estate, all was going well and i wanted to drive the car down to a trailer to test all worked. When driving it the gear lever suddenly felt as if something broke and it now seems to be stuck in 1st gear. The cables ...
