Re: ARRGGHhhh...Dead Pug

I played about and found that fuse 2 was blown and kept blowing as soon as replaced. Looking serious I gave in and took it to my local garage. they 'phoned to tell me that the speedo sensor on the gearbox had shorted out. So with worries about expensive computer replacements it turns out we were nea...

Re: ARRGGHhhh...Dead Pug

Thanks for all the replies, it's good to know there's plenty of brains out there. All the fuses seem O.K. I've checked the battery and engine connections, all seems to be well. I cannot get the link between the non firing engine and the lack of dash instrumentation and warning lights (except the bat...

ARRGGHhhh...Dead Pug

So there I was shooting merrily up the M5 and half way around the M4/M5 interchange, on the outside lane, peeling off towards Bristol, and all the gauges and the engine dies. I then had cross four lanes of M/Way and coast to a halt almost on the M4. After cleaning out my underpants I called a get yo...

reversing sensors

Hi I was wondering if anyone knows a easy(er) way to fit the rear sensors to the bumper without removing it? I've fitted all the rest, all I need to do now is *shudder* drill the bumper and run the cables, so any advice would be most helpful (apart from, don't bother. I can't help it, I just cannot ...

wiper linkage

Hi Can someone please tell me if the wiper linkage can/should be lubricated? My wipers, after not being used for some time, start very slowly and gradually build up to to proper working speed and are the fine until the next period of non use (a week or so). All the Haynes manual tells me is how to r...

Re: cold automatic gearbox

Plot Shift/Update Last week my wife went and started the car for me, and said that the snow/sports lights came on when she revved the engine. (In consideration of the neighbours I usually warm it up at a moderate rate) So, could it be that the problem is with a cold engine rather than the gearbox? M...

Re: cold automatic gearbox

Update. I took my car to Midland Road Gearboxes. They told me to be there at 8a.m., "So we can get it onto the ramp". I got there and they asked if the problem was happening at the moment? "No", said I. "Well", said they, " Not much point in looking if there's no problem at the moment, when it happe...

Re: cold automatic gearbox

Thanks for the replies, I don't know the state of the old oil as it was done by a gearbox specialist. It just seems very strange to me that the problem only appears when the engine/gearbox is cold.

cold automatic gearbox

Hi there. When first starting off sometimes there is a loud 'thud' coming, I think, from the gearbox. then the 'sports' and 'ice' lights start flashing on the dashboard and the car locks itself into 'get you home mode'. If I stop the car, turn off the engine and then restart off it goes. This can ha...

Re: new 406 0wner needs help

Hi On my pug I have the upper climate display, but only the left hand side is illuminated (during the day). I've checked in my Haynes, but cannot find any mention of bulb replacement. So is the display self illunimating, in which case the right-hand side is not working, or is there a buld replacemen...

Re: I'd Like to say Hello.

steve_earwig, Sorry about your bad back, I hope it's better. Thanks for all the info., I must admit I am pretty lost after '.....twin fan'. I think a 'phone call to the scrappy tomorrow and ask if I can go and compare what will fit my motor. Can you tell which sort to fit by looking at where it's su...

Re: I'd Like to say Hello.

Yes, I'd have thought so, but what do I know - I missed that the bl***y thing wasn't there.

Does anyone have a handbook for this car? I'm happy to buy one, or if someone could scan a copy and send it to me I would be very greatful.
