Re: Fuel economy nosediving...

I have found the MAF sensor can go faulty without effecting emissions too much and without it storing a fault code. Also ive found them to be a problem if they have been replaced with a non genuine MAF sensor. Though often a good clean with some contact cleaner has them working better, i always do t...

Re: computer display

I got the bulbs in the little holders from the dealers for a small amount of money, dealers are often cheaper than you think and will usually always give you discount too :)

Re: 110 HDI - 420 miles at 85 - 90mph - 39.7 mpg sound right?

Im starting to think 406s must be way more economical than C5s  On my trip to the south of france this year in the 110 C5 HDi i got 45MPG over the whole trip, which is just a tiny bit more than its doing on average now. That was sat at 80mph (80 on sat nav) with the cruise set pretty much all ...

Re: Fuel economy nosediving...

Wow, im surprised by that, i was surprised that my 206 2.0 had rear drums but on a 406 thats a bit mean of Peugeot. Mind the one i should be going to see tomorrow has a close up picture of the rear wheel, i thought the dics looked ruined behind the alloy, but its just the drum then  I cant thin...

Re: Fuel economy nosediving...

Could be a number of things really, air temp sensor, maf sensor, your exhaust hole, weather been using a different make of fuel recently?

406s have rear drum breaks? :?

Re: 110 HDI - 420 miles at 85 - 90mph - 39.7 mpg sound right?

Yours are pretty impressive MPG figures from your 406 HDis, almost 40MPG sitting at 85-90 is excellent i would say. Im struggling to acheive 40MPG on the 2.0HDI 110 C5s read out, though i do find that the trip computer underreads by as many as 5MPG. So dont believe your cars computers! I always get ...

Re: Golf TDI

It would seem 406s are actually one of the more reliable cars at the moment! Hdis are pretty solid engines, and ive failed to dig up too many common problems with 406s. Where as there are a fair few about most VAG group cars and loads about most other makes. Ford Mondeo? Possibly one of the most pro...

Re: Newbie, wanting 406 HDI

Captain Jack, thats a very nice interior in your 2.1TD, i do like that. I wouldnt be put off by thr LX spec, as it has everything i would want and i could add the alloys etc. The spec im looking at is the Rapier, which seems similar to the LX but it doesnt have wood interior trim, its got black whic...

Re: type d8 or d9

I know its a little off topic, but since its been mentioned ... how are 406s at motorway speed, sound wise? Are they as refined as most big cars. Im still looking for one and have not yet driven one at motorway speeds.

Re: Golf TDI

The Golf GT TDi has the multicoloured interior which i think your trying to avoid? The dark trim with either bright red or blue inserts? Personally i like those interiors, however the E & S specs have dark grey cloth, probably quite hard wearing stuff. Watch out for light grey interiors, SEs often h...

Re: Golf TDI

I cant rate Xantias highly enough, absolutely fantastic cars, dirt cheap now too. You could get a S2 1.9TD and run it on veg oil, superbly comfortable, handle well and very reliable motors. They are not very big compared to modern family size cars either. We have two Xms which we have as hobby cars,...

Re: 407 questions ....

If the clutch is starting to slip when you go near the pedal then its certainly on its very last legs. These have a dual mass flywheels which can be costly to replace, thought its more than likely just its friction plate is very worn. We have a 2005 2.0HDi 138 HDi C5 estate, which is identical to th...
