to steve earwig, cool name! It does it whether i hold it at 2100 rpm when stationary or when im driving also not very good with engines got a haynes manual but it doesnt show location of engine mounts any help please. dont laugh at my ignorance.

Thanks for all your help you lot. I DID find a small bear nesting under the bonnet, but even after i evicted him the growl is still there. Will check engine mounts etc thanks once again all

i have a 2ltr petrol 406 on a "P", plate (1996 i think), for the past couple of months whenever i reach around 2100 rpm (40mph in fourth, 50 mph in fifth) there is a distinct growl coming from somewhere in the drivers side footwell of the engine. I have taken it to a garage and they can find nothing...
