D9 406 - Getting faults read

I've got a D9 406 - 2003, HDI 110. It occasionally brings up "Anti pollution system problem" or similar on the dash, and illuminates the engine check lamp. This then goes off after a while. The car runs fine, but is only returning around 41 to the gallon. Anyway, I want to sell the car, and nobody's...

Much Pleasedness - warped disks

Swapped off the warped (TBH I'm not sure how warped they actually were) front disks for new Brembos the other day. FWIW I managed to get my hands on a set for £34 +VAT by ringing around the local motor factors. I was quoting GSF's website price of £25, not realising that GSF are the only people in t...

Vibration & possible boost leak

My 406 HDi 110 has a right vibration around 1800-1900 rpm, say if you're chugging along in third at 30. Change to 4th and around 1400 revs and it's gone (so the engine's not labouring), accelerate up to around 2100 revs and it's gone. Any ideas? Another thing is there's a possible boost leak - one o...

Auxillary input?

Is there a way of wiring an auxillary input to the Clarion headunit in my D9 406? It's the kind with a sat nav cd in the boot. All I want to do is plug an MP3 player or phone into the thing. Controlling it from the head unit like a CD changer isn't important.

HDi Throttle Response - laggy lift off

The throttle response seems a bit odd on my 406 HDI. It's a 2003 car, 110 with 95k. It's got the usual diesel lack of throttle response when you plant your foot, which is fine, but when you lift off for a gear change, the throttle response will lag a fair bit, meaning that if I'm cracking on a bit t...

Re: Re-spray

There's no way I'd try and spray over 480 grit marks with can primer. I recently resprayed my fun car myself, using a proper gun, compressor and breathing gear, and a shitload of advice from people who spray professionally. I'd sand to 600 grit on rattle can primer - it's more work but it's a hell o...

Re: Re-spray

If it's already got good paint on it then the prep work is minimal - scuff with a grey scotchbrite pad and spray.

You only need a lot of prep if you're starting from bare metal - particularly if you've removed rust in one area and still have paint at the other end of the panel.

Re: HDI Tuning / brakes / clutch

They've got a bit of a rep for warping discs, which is something I could do without. Certainly someone I know had them warp 4 times on him, and the discs on this car are warped too despite being replaced recently. Bear in mind that sometimes I'll be driving 4 up + gear, going on holiday and mountain...

HDI Tuning / brakes / clutch

I've just bought a 110 HDI 406 estate. It's a 53 plate, with 95K on the clock and all the service history is present and correct. Anyway. It's a big heavy car, and it's about as spritely as my bird's ZX diesel. What are my options for tuning? I'm not particularly looking to go into big intercooler s...
