Re: Front strut bearing replacement

I'm seeing $50 and 80€ for aftermarket ones (did the gold plating wear off of yours? ) No idea if Pug still sells them but they're probably stupidly expensive, judging by aftermarket prices.

Re: Hydraulic clutch mystery (non Peugeot)

I just thought, you'll probably need to visit a breaker's for the reservoir, sods law says if you don't have one in reserve you'll break it (and if you do it'll come off like butter  )

Re: Hydraulic clutch mystery (non Peugeot)

I think checking brake fluid is more good than bad, you know when you change brake fluid and it's black and lumpy and you think to yourself - I was relying on that ! Even if it ain't black and disgusting it does absorb moisture from the air and can boil under heavy breaking. Plus I don't trust the l...

Re: Hydraulic clutch mystery (non Peugeot)

Labour about 6 hours at best. Ah, that's what I was worried about, then it wouldn't make any sense not to change the whole kit and kaboodle once it was in bits. It's not air in the system that's the concern, it's bits of junk floating about in it blocking off passages etc. Akchewerly, if the lid's ...

Re: Hydraulic clutch mystery (non Peugeot)

Nope, that's bizarre  Umm, sounds more like just the hydraulics to me, can it be bled? Maybe the brakes have been done in the past but not the clutch and it's full of sputum. Filler cap, it's got to be opened some time, if it breaks it breaks. Bleed it, drive it, if it messes up again find so...

Re: Diesel pump

Hello, there's nothing wrong with your English  I think this really is an HDi 90 with the Siemens HP pump and no LP/lift pump in the tank. You should have a hand pump near the engine (looks like a hand grenade) which you need to use to prime the system. I think you need to pump it until it goe...

Re: alternator issues

The AA guy was probably measuring volt drop, so it's not completely borked, just borked enough to stop it working. I presume he'll have tried reseating the fuse. I suspect you'll be looking for a green and crusty connector, er, somewhere.

Re: and today i have mostly been...

And back down to 12 - I took Dorothy to the vet's, sadly along with all her other problems she had feline aids. I know people can and do cope with this but, with 12 other cats, we didn't think it would be sane to bring her home again, so she's gone. I feel awful, I guess it's another one of those de...

Re: alternator issues

So alternator output is controlled by the BSI, I didn't actually think they were that "advanced". Umm, my fuse diagrams for a full-mux say fuse 16 in the engine fuse panel, which the AA man checked. :frown:

Re: and today i have mostly been...

Yeah, it's getting a bit out of hand but what else can I do? The vet's here are overrun with kittens, cats, puppies, dogs so there's no point in taking her there and adding to their problems. She'd never get homed either, people want healthy kittens/puppies and they certainly don't want to deal with...

Re: My 406 Break - bought it for work, but already love the car

Gah! I forgot which car we were talking about, sorry. This is the 2.1td that's been converted to a Bosch pump from a 1.9. Forget everything I said, neither of these has a lift pump, you *should* be able to get the strainer through the hole in the floor no problem, cracking off the injectors will not...

Re: My 406 Break - bought it for work, but already love the car

The Haynes doesn't cover the Siemens SID801 system! :( I've had a look about but I can't find any information on bleeding the system. Obviously you'd be wise not to crack open any injectors (unless you have life insurance...) The loss of power sounds like fuel starvation - something to do with the v...
