Hi Andrew,
Thanks for the advice, I will whip the neg terminal off as soon as the day warms up.
Cheers

Re: Stereo Wiring cut
Hi Old Codger Thanks for the link...I note the technique with the 9V battery...all I now need id to know what wires come from which terminals on the dedicated stereo unit. Exhaustive searching on the web hasn't pulled up any pin-out data for this stereo and then there is the connections to the contr...

Re: 999.99 MPG
Hi Tim, yes of course you are correct regarding the pump priming once the the ignition was turned on, however my suspicion was aroused because the engine fired instantly the key was turned...no time lag for fuel to pump through. I had unsuccessfully tried for some time to start the engine on the for...

999.99 MPG
Hi, My computer has started to behave strangely (year 2000, V6 406 estate) I ran out of petrol on the filling station forecourt ! So I put 35 litres in and the fuel gage displayed correctly, but the current MPG reading says 99999 and the elapsed MPG does the same. I can hold in the button at the end...

Re: Stereo Wiring cut
Hi, thanks for the reply. I managed to buy the necessary plugs with 6 inches of wire connected to each pin, from someone who was scraping a car. The colours don't seem to match my loom exactly so I can't think of a way of joining them up without wiring diagrams which include the pin locations on the...

if its an 2000 on a w it will be the later v6. you really need to get the fault codes read again to ascetain which of the lambda sensors is at fault. as a rule of thumb, both should be changed at the same time. just dont be tempted for cheap/secondhand sensors. they rarely work and can actually cau...

Re: Socket power off or on
As someone who frequently runs "stuff" from the lighter socket (gps charger, phone charger, inverter, etc) I've found it a lifesaver to have it cut out with the ignition off... That's interesting, I'm of the opposite opinion, I often leave things charging from the socket overnight in my garage. I g...

V6 Lambda
is it the early v6 or the later 2000 on one? bank 1 is the front bank nearest the radiator. post 2000 v6's (211 bhp) have 4 lambda sensors, 2 pre, 2 post catalyst. im not 100% sure whether the early engines have 4 or not. the are pretty simple to change. a good 22mm spanner usually undoes them. if ...

Fuses
Off the top of my head it's a 10A fuse that is one of the 2 or 3 which can be installed in 2 different positions (so you can choose to have it on or off with ignition off). top row, about 10 from the left Thanks for the information, I bet I pulled the fuse out to check it and then replaced it in th...

Lambda probe?
Has anyone changed a lambda probe / mixture sensor / thingy on a 406 V6? My good lady's estate has the engine management light on and a while back I got someone to read the fault code which said the sensor (air mixture, I think) on bank 1 was defective (Tesco'd I think). The car runs fine and seems ...
