Wet carpet LHD

Hi. I've looked at the threads about the wet carpet thing. People talk about the " driver's side " meaning the right hand side if you're sitting in the car. My 406 is left hand drive. and the driver's side , left hand side, footwell carpet is soaked. Do those vulnerable electrical connections change...

Re: Engine fumes coming into cabin

PROBLEM SOLVED !!!! Haynes manual finally arrived from England. Read about air distribution. Turns out there are two rubber flappy type valves behind the plastic stuff in the boot to let air pressure out, for examplewhen you close the doors. These were both only half fitted, allowing outside air int...

Hey Doggy. Thanks for that. Me mate’s got a compressor. I’ll blow it out with that. Is the cover easy to unclip?

Re: Electric fan. How to test if working?

Thanks for reply, looks like I’ve got an early D9. No glowplug light even for an instant. Starts no probs anyway and runs like a dream. The small fan in the courtesy light cluster above the interior mirror makes a noise. From threads on this site seems to be regulating aircon? Does it turn all the t...

Re: Electric fan. How to test if working?

Hey, Doggy thanks for reply. Switching on air-con starts cabin circulating fan but not the cooling fan in front of radiator. I only have one fan there. The cooling system seems to be working fine anyway. The motor was first registered June 1999 and the paperwork says it’s an 2.0 HDI 110. Don’t know ...

Re: Electric fan. How to test if working?

Hi Doggy, thanks for response. I had thought of doing a test like that but I was more thinking of sticking 12 volts up its jacksie somewhere, maybe at wherever the sensor is ? I’ll admit that I was worried about overheating the engine and hadn’t factored in the higher boiling point under pressure. T...

Electric fan. How to test if working?

Hi people. I’m not convinced that the auxiliary electric fan is working. I’m in Portugal, and the daily temperature is around 30. I live in the mountains so much climbing involved too. The temp gauge is hovering a tad short of 90 and I’ve never heard that fan kick in. How can I test it ? Cheers. 199...

Re: Engine fumes coming into cabin

Hi. Made me laugh first time looking on here last week. My handbrake not good, and the engine cover was in the boot cos mountings broken — common problem! Handbrake just a matter of maintenance etc. My last car here Seat Ibiza 1996 with VW 1.9 diesel engine.. It’s done 540,000 kms about 340,000 mile...

Re: Engine fumes coming into cabin

Hi, GingerMagic. Thanks for speedy response. The recirculation flap was just flopping backwards and forwards- didn't seem like it was connected to any control mechanism or anything. Thanks for info on vacuum switches, it explains a lot. The door seals that are knackered are the lower ones, the ones ...

Re: Engine fumes coming into cabin

Hi, me again. I found the pollen filter ( good old YouTube ! ). Took it out. It revealed the flap controlled by re-circulation button. It was just dangling down vertically. With the engine running and heater control turned up to max the button made no difference. How is it opened and closed ? Anyway...

Engine fumes coming into cabin

Hi people. I have a couple of questions, looking for help. I needed a better car so, with fond memories of a 406 diesel estate in the past, I got another one. It's as lovely a motor as I remember but fumes have started coming into the car. I've searched this fantastic website and got some info. Yes,...
