Re: Beko1987's Winter Beater of Distinction!

Thanks! I always register for the marque specific forums, mainly due to the masses of knowledge, and post because forum etiquette says it's the thing to do! (I was on the renault forum when I had the laguna's, but it was utter crap so I didn't stay there!) Got a few hours on Sunday, so in I imagine ...

Despite having just bought an estate, the saloon does look prettier!

Beko1987's Winter Beater of Distinction!

Hi! This seems like a good place to start a meandering progress thread on my new 406! Not much has happened and not much will happen TBH as I seem to have bought a car that's had a recent cambelt and waterpump 18,000/2 years ago and full service 3000 miles ago... The initial pictures are in my intro...

Re: Hi from a first time 406 owner!

Apparently it was all changed fairly recently, and just needs adjustment. So after reading the how to guide on here I'll be trying that first, and removing the centre console as it feels like the lever is catching on something, it's certainly not a smooth operation which I would expect a crap handbr...

Re: Mot headlight fail headache

Sounds like a much easier job pottering away at it with lots of access though! Although now the beam is much improved the handbrake needs attention first!

Re: Mot headlight fail headache

Yep, been playing with that to check the adjusters work, they do. What I have done is find that the passenger headlight is a tiny bit loose. Now fixed with a scrap bit of tree I found on the road, wedged under the headlight. The few mm it lifted it has made the light throw much better, and a test dr...

Re: Mot headlight fail headache

Might check all these to see if it cures my awful beam pattern... Did any of the above fix your issue? My reflector is very loose too, when I changed the sidelight bulb it was moving all over the place when I fiddled it back in...

Re: Hi from a first time 406 owner!

TBH as far as niggles go there's not many: Indicator stalk - found many how to guides, and the plastic part isn't too expensive. Problem is I'll think very hard about buying a new steering wheel as it's the only bit of the 192000 mile interior that's worn, although it is very grippy... Handbrake - N...

Re: Hi from a first time 406 owner!

Yes, the front of the bonnet is repaired with some very robust looking silver boiler flue tape! Seems to be a 'they all do that sir' issue! As does the indicator stalk! I've been pointed in the direction of a plastic part that snaps inside and makes the stick awful, pulling back for main beam is a t...

Re: Hi from a first time 406 owner!

Thanks all! Moonstone Blue, is that the colour? I thought it was silver, although the sun hasn't been out since I bought it! We went shopping in it earlier, and driving it along very familiar roads allowed me to start getting a bit used to it. It needs a lower gear than the Laguna at speeds, so 3rd ...

Hi from a first time 406 owner!

Hi! My name is Sam, and I'm from South Oxfordshire. I never planned to own a 406. Always quite liked them, but never really went further than that, didn't really plan to own another car at all a few days ago, was happy plodding about in my quite knackered Laguna minding my own business, when a very ...
