Re: Lower engine mount block removal - 1998 1.9tdi - help!

I'm stuck with that I think, I'll stick the other bolts back in and cut it out, powerflex bush on order.
At least then I'll never have to do it again!!

Lower engine mount block removal - 1998 1.9tdi - help!

I'm trying to change my 406's lower engine mount by taking the mounting block that the driveshaft runs through off the engine. So far I have removed the driveshaft, the lower mount lever and undone the two lower 16mm bolts on the block near the sump, a top 16mm bolt and a smaller nut that has a stru...

Re: Gearbox/diff output bearing play - howto fix?

Thought I'd update this thread to conclude it: the new driveshaft seal plus about 2L of new Total 75w80 oil in the transmission and all is now well again with the gearbox. So glad I tried that before taking out the gearbox! That plus the new wheel bearings have resulted in the funny droning noises d...

Re: The 70mm lower engine mount bush + gloplugs

Thanks Phil, found this thread: http://www.406oc.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=24176&p=243640&hilit=lower+bush#p243640 and I suspect you are right. People always use these thread pullers etc but whenever I try it the thing is stuck like a bitch and doesn't move. the ability to use heat and hydraulics wi...

The 70mm lower engine mount bush + gloplugs

Ok so for a while my 1.9tdi engine has been a pain to start. In fact ever since a glowplug failed and I replaced them all for the proper 406 ones from Peugeot it always needs two 'warmup' waits until trying to start and even then it sometimes takes a 2nd crank. The old ones were a different part num...

Re: Gearbox/diff output bearing play - howto fix?

Just an update to this, I decided that after the advice on here I'd treat the small play as 'within tolerance', so I just replaced the oil seal and put some new oil in, then if it's fixed I won't have to do anything else to it. The oil came out clean too as did the sump plug so I'm hoping for the be...

Re: Gearbox/diff output bearing play - howto fix?

Thanks for the info, I'd taken care that it didn't fall out when I had the strut out by sticking a big (#3 philips) screwdriver through the lower wishbone hole (where the lower balljoint bolts in) and wiring the driveshaft end that used to sit in the hub to the screwdriver handle with some spare zin...

Re: Gearbox/diff output bearing play - howto fix?

Hi all, thanks for the replies. I'll check it's pushed all the way in, do I just push the driveshaft toward the diff to make sure it's fully in? I thought as they were prone to falling out on their own they just pressed in? Now I've got two new wheel bearings and some more oil in there I'll take it ...

Gearbox/diff output bearing play - howto fix?

Hi all, Having just replaced my hubs, wheel bearings and springs... (Because last time I had a wheel bearing done they bent the caliper carrier getting the bearing out, plus I thought I'd change the top bearings and therefore also the springs as it's been 5 years - plus I had a wheel bearing whine) ...

Re: difficulty removing lower suspension ball joint 21mm nut

Grind it from one side so it's almost ground to the threads - but leave about 1 or 2mm away. You'll now find the nut is much easier to undo and will probably snap open if it's really stuck - and come off regardless. I did this recently with a steering balljoint nut so I know it works, the heat and t...
