Re: How many forum users still actually drive a 406
I still have one, mostly driven by my wife. I would probably have one too if they hadn't got so ridiculously expensive. I still think they are the best car I have driven in over 60 years of motoring, certainly the most reliable. I now have an equally old C220 Cdi Merc estate, its nice but I still f...

Re: How many forum users still actually drive a 406
I did up until it finally let go just after Christmas, it now sat at the bottom of my drive waiting to be sent off to the breakers. The clutch started slipping to the point it was almost un driveable the constant bsi seizures and alternator not wanting to work as and when it felt like. Replaced it w...

Re: going to have a go at welding the sills !
There does come a point where its just not worth it to keep throwing money at it. It was the same with my calibra, mechanically it was perfect but bodywise it was a nightmare. I changed both front wings the tailgate a door one of the sills drivers side floor pan, it was just one thing after another....

Re: ROLLING COAL
They smoke because people are cheap and believe what they read on ebay. £9.99 obd tuning plug guaranteed more mpg and power, how could I lose. All they do is use a resistor that tricks the ecu into thinking its cold so it dumps extra fuel in.

Re: ROLLING COAL
Completely different scenario and engine, for starters they usually add alcohol into the diesel as this cools the fuel making it denser. They also run ridiculous levels of boost to match the huge fuel intake and are under huge loads, hense the huge explosions when something let's go. Dumping extra f...

Re: ROLLING COAL
Dumping so much fuel in that it belches huge amounts of thick black smoke will not give you maximum power. The huge amount of smoke is from the fuel not being burnt efficiently. Our 130pd passat has been remapped and it puts out less crap now than It did before. It will pull hard right up to the red...

Re: ROLLING COAL
The idea's generally to punish cyclists for daring to use their roads. If done right, the cyclist will either crash, resulting in financial loss and a potential hospital damage, suffer from mild to strong hypoxia from holding their breath for extended periods with an elevated heart rate, or just ge...

Re: New 'stricter' MOTs...
My dad has to deal with this crap all the time, it amazes me how people can expect their car to pass an mot with bulbs out and balding tyres. 9 out of ten car that come in have almost no oil on the dip stick. I guess these are the same people you see sat at the side of the motor way every summer, th...

As far as I'm aware eml on on any car is classed as a fail.

Re: New 'stricter' MOTs...
Be wary of problems throwing up an eml, if it comes om during the mot it will fail. And for the more dodgy people out there taking the bulb out won't get you through as they check all the warning lights work as part of the test now.

Re: Ebay Etc. Just "Run-In" 406s
I do think a lot of it is an irrational fear of anything new and unfamiliar, and it's not a new thing. Can you remember when k jetronic hit the scene in the late 70s? The bad rep it got was rather unjustified, and has still not been shaken now. Compare the same car one running k jet the other the st...
