Re: Clunk clunk clunk when turning... New drive shaft time?
Greetings Pug lovers. My D9 has just passed its MOT with very minor advisories 8) BUT has developed a clunk clunk clunk noise from the front drivers side wheel. Only happens when I turn the steering wheel. Not noticed any abnormal handling or vibration so am thinking maybe it's a cv joint gawn orft...

Re: Problems when engine warm
You are kind of right.
White smoke can appear if the air/fuelmixture is off, but only at idle, as soon as power is applied the smoke will turn black.

Re: Problems when engine warm
Could it be something less sinister, like a stuck EGR, or a blocked air filter..? I'm not sure why it runs fine when cold but as soon as things warm up then you get problems... If you add your location here, maybe someone local can use diagnostics on it to check the air flow, EGR, injection values ...

Re: Cost of Clutch? & Some Diagnosis / advice sought?
Your clutch release bearing is done with, and since the gearbox needs to come of in order to change that, the clutch should be changed at the same time. Changing the belt is something you can do yourself, there are tons of diy videoes on the net. About the steering. It is most likely the steeringrac...

Re: Reliability
The Peugeot diesel has always been hailed as one of the best diesels ever, well that's what I was always led to believe, and I've had a few. How is it some old 406's run for hundreds of thousands of miles with no major engine worries and others, like mine, do 106000 miles and need a head gasket? Is...

Pulling my hair out with this one! Runs fine aswell not lumpy or anything like that. 1.9td garret...

Re: Very Lumpy Starting 406 HDI 2.0 2004
Thanks for that. Worn engine mount was something that occurred to me as well but was discounted by a mechanic although I do not know why. Is a worn mount consistent with a low mileage of only 52000 miles? The theory does sound plausible to me because it feels like something is loose or becoming loo...

Re: Biting point adjustment
I've bought a replacement 406 estate, to replace our old one that failed its MoT beyond economic repair. The "new" one is a 2000 D9 with the old 1.8 engine. Runs fine, long MoT, clean inside. One or two things not working, but fixable. But... the clutch biting point is close to the floor, which mea...

I know its not 406 its 207 but you knowledgeable people have helped me in the past. Daughters 207 1.6hdi blew all the oil out on a dual carriageway at 70 time she stopped the engine was fooooked. Ive been donated a 207 1.9hdi written off but with a good engine, question is what electronically will ...

Re: Third gear
The oil is Total Gear 8 75-80. Bought at the local Peugeot mechanic. So Hopefully Im okay there.PhillipM wrote:As I said above - what oil was used when the gearbox was refitted?
The wrong oil in a Peugeot box will contaminate the synchros and show up slightly worn ones much more.

Re: Third gear
I will buy the fact that the gearbox is worn, it has done more miles than most cars 250.000. I can live with it just skipping third gear .
The time for a newer car is getting closer every day.
I have my eyes on a 508, really like that model.
Thx for the replies guys.

Re: Third gear
Seconded, although if its only in third the synchro ring is probably worn. Does it go into the other gears without baulking? If its the synchro it will probably be worse when cold, the thicker oil causes drag which can slow the box down. Peter It is only in third, all other gears are fine. Im suspe...

I’ve bleed the clutch, no change. I am hoping that some one out there can tell me what to do. There was noth...
