Re: rear roll bar clamps

The clamps do rust through and they're hard to get any good ones, I took a fibreglass mould off one of mine and then used them as a pattern to shape some new steel ones.

Yes that looks like it would be exactly what I need, rather pricy though, especially with shipping and things, hmm

Re: Rear brakes upgrades?

Happens a lot, either the calipers stick or the discs rust/pit where the handbrake is and then the handbrake goes to sh*t and they drag as well.

Ah they weren't mix 'n' match, the other stand with a big flat pad for the wood is in front of the left one there. Blocks are wedged up against the sills, the stand on the left there was just knocked in as well to make sure the wood didn't twist, needed to get the the back inners for welding work.

I got enough for 2 oil changes for free :supafrisk:

Good stuff though, only oil I've ever seen a noticable increase in MPG on. Need it in a V6

Re: Diagnosing AC issue

The clunk should be the clutch engaging, you should be able to see the centre of the pulley engage if the clutch is working properly if you get someone else to hit the button while you watch, check that first. It's not unknown for the insides of the compressor to seize though - mine did the same thi...

Re: Type of oil

tbfh any semi-synth or synth oil in either 30 or 40 weight is probably going to be fine anyway, oil has come a long way since the XU was designed, even a basic semi-synth has twice the service life and HTHS ratings as they had back then - just grab something with A3/B4 or A5/B5 rating on the bottle ...

Re: Third gear

As I said above - what oil was used when the gearbox was refitted?

The wrong oil in a Peugeot box will contaminate the synchros and show up slightly worn ones much more.

Re: Third gear

As the rest said, worn synchro - 2nd to 3rd are the most frequent changes usually so it often see's more wear than the rest.

Having said that, what oil was the gearbox refilled with? The wrong oil can cause issues too, Pug boxes are very picky about oil.

I've got one cat that will rip your face off if you so much as come near her with wet hands, and her brother who happily jumps in the bath and paddles around.
