Wiring diagram for central locking needed

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Wiring diagram for central locking needed

Post by Lee1978 » Mon Jun 12, 2017 6:28 pm

Hi all, as per the title, I need help locating a decent wiring diagram for the central locking. I've taken a look at auto data and their diagram isn't great unfortunately.
My car is a 2002 406 90hp Bosch but I'm guessing all the 2002 406's will share the same central locking.
Thanks. Lee.

Thanks Doggy, I appreciate the input. That looks like a good resource although the central locking seems to have only a partial wiring diagram. The locking mechanisms on my car have extra components, in the front mechanisms there is a door open/close switch, a door lock/unlock switch and a key position switch (lock/unlock). I need a diagram that shows all that stuff.

Thanks Steve but that's actually from the resource Doggy mentioned, so far I've seen that and autodata's wiring diagram. Does anyone have a decent scan of the Haynes diagram?

That's all there is. I could post up pictures of the wiring for all 4 doors (5 maybe...) but they won't show any extra detail. I'm not even sure there could be any extra detail: that's the contacts in the lock, connectors and wiring back to the BSI. What else is there? :?

The diagrams in Haynes are laughably inaccurate.

What are you actually hoping to see?

Steve- there's actually a lot more going on than your wiring diagram suggests. As I mentioned above there are several switches in the front lock mechanisms: door (open/close), lock (lock/unlock) and key position (lock/unlock). There's also a second motor which controls the deadlock and that's controlled by a separate relay, also not shown.
The rear doors are much simpler, your diagram is correct in as much as they contain just the one switch, the door open/close switch, they do however still contain the deadlock motor which isn't shown.
The autodata diagram is better but still not great, I'm hoping a combination of wiring diagrams will fill in the blanks, hence my question about the Haynes manual.
I'm trying to solve a central locking issue where the locks are constantly driven into the unlock position, I'd like to see the various switches and their wiring so I can check everything before drawing the conclusion it's the BSI..

Ah, you have deadlocks, ok.

Hmm, I can post the diagrams but a lot of the wire codes are coming up either missing or (what's the word? Ah yes) bollocks, so I hope this is good enough.

I don't know about the second motor as I've never had a car with deadlocks, so I presume the motor with 3 brushes is just symbolic and there really are 2 motors squeezed in there.

Top man! That's exactly what I was looking for, thanks Steve.
I'll work my way through that little lot this weekend, if I discover anything useful I'll be sure to post.

No worries, glad we got there 8)

Not sure if it's what you're dealing with but the usual problem is the BSI doesn't know a door's shut (not receiving the command due to a broken/dirty switch or a broken wire) so it just bounces the locks when you try to lock it. I think* your car will be late enough to have connectors you can open to test towards the locks on the door pillars. The trick is finding the right door...

I'm pretty familiar with the old "bouncing locks" but this one is doing something I've never seen before, it's driving the locks into the unlock position continuously until all the motors burn out. I was wondering if the BSI was waiting for a unlocked indication from one of the front doors, the logic being that maybe it will drive the motors until it sees both front doors are unlocked but who knows!?
So far I've replaced the burnt out locks, checked the locking relay in the BSI and worked my way through a good portion of the wiring, still no idea what's causing it.

Dear lord, that's a weird one  So if the lock itself tells the BSI that it's either locked or unlocked, therefore if the BSI doesn't see the unlocked information then presumably it'll keep trying to unlock the doors, er, forever.

The connectors from the r/h front door to the BSI:
6220 : Door closed deadlocking input signal
6221 : Door open deadlocking input signal
6290 : Left-hand front lock unlocking info
6216 : boot opening output oh god dammit

As much use as a 406 handbrake....

I guess if you can break the circuits at the door posts you should be able to look towards the locks to see what's doing what as you operate it and, hopefully, what isn't.

The possibility of a lock confusing the BSI is just a theory at the moment but I think it's worth looking at, who knows how the BSI actually works, the overly complicated little $#!¥.
Spookily, my handbrake is completely useless, you must be psychic!
