Cruise Control not working...so PP/Lexia??? SOLVED

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

I was looking at the diagrams for a stop-light query yesterday and I think the clutch and 'redundant' brake pedal switches are normally closed, whereas the stop light switch clearly wouldn't work too well this way round......

HTH

PP2000 will also tell you the status of the various controls on the COM2000 and probably let you know if you have any comms problems.

If you want one, search eBay for 'Lexia 3'. About £110 seems to be the going rate. Honestly don't know if the latest 'Diagbox' offerings are better/worse, but it seems most adds offer both. :?

Cheers Doggy.

I guess if that is the way the switches work then with the pedal up, one should show up as inactive and the other active. I'll keep you all updated on the next instalment but firstly, off outside to see if the switches operate in the correct order.

IIRC, all three switches are normally closed.

Don't think it's the switches on the brake pedal :?

My brother told me he knew of someone who had cruise that wouldn't engage and..apparently...it was caused by a speed sensor on one of the wheels which required cleaning etc.

I don't know the system well enough to comment, but are there /is there a connection between cruise and wheel rotation sensor(s)? The same sensor as an ABS wheel sensor? If so, if there was some problem with that sensor would it give me an ABS light of some kind.

Or is there something else that inputs a speed signal to the cruise control? I'm thinking that there might well be an input from whatever supplies the speedo and the trip computer etc...which are working fine BTW.

Any thoughts team?

Jonty

EDIT: Having written the above and dug around on the web, am I right in thinking that there is a VSS (vehicle speed sensor) somewhere on the gearbox/transaxle unit which talks to the vehicle speed interface (VSI) unit which signals to the ECU and instrument cluster etc.? Anyone point me in the direction of where to find the VSI on a 406? I'll have a google in the meantime...and I think it's in the area of the glovebox.

Next question folks...

So I'm looking through the papers that my Dad-in-law gave me with the car and I spy that it's been to Peugeot twice since he's had it. One time it went in with an airbag faul (light on) and they replaced the COM2000. New part number is listed on the ticket as 6242C2.

I believe that is the right part number for a 53 plate 110 HDI estate with rear wash/wipe, auto wipers, auto headlights, remote radio stalk and cruise control - anyone think differently?

As my Dad-in-law never used the cruise he wouldn't have tried it - is there any possibility that having fitted the new COM2000 the car had to have a setting changed or something re-set so that it knows it has cruise control? The complete lack of anything when operating it makes me wonder.

I guess it's just another point to strengthen the case for getting PP2000/Lexia eh?

It might be worth checking all the plugs are fitted correctly at the back of the comm 2000 unit and also make sure none of them are damaged as i've heard of the cables/connectors being damaged when being removed.

Ooh - that's interesting. I'll get the cowling off again later! Thanks

I think the COM2000 is the same with or without cruise, (the cruise and audio stalks just clip into the basic COM2000) and I don't think it should need configuring after a replacement, but I don't know for certain.

I changed my comm 2000 on my Exec estate for a used unit and the cruise worked fine as did the ESP which i was told would need calibrating

Cheers folks.

I'm guessing that a COM2000 should literally be plug and play - and perhaps it was working after the unit change - I just can't be sure.

I'll have to keep on investigating and let you lot know.

I've had to do a BSI reset on two 307s and one 407 which had cruise control faults. The reset cured the problem.

Now, that's something I wondered about.

I've tried shunt fuse removal...5 times.

I've tried ... battery off, wait, wake car up... 3 times.

Neither worked.

Does a BSI reset require Lexia/PP2000? If it does then fine...I finally gave in and bought one last night on ebay.

Cheers,

Jonty

Well, no....viewtopic.php?f=10&t=10968

I suspect you'll still need the PP2000, besides, it allows you to use my daughter's favourite expression:-

Cheers Doggy - just followed that process to the letter and will test later.

Hopefully the diagnostic gear will turn up in time for the weekend.

Jonty

EDIT - so my fleabay PP2000 kit turned up. No instructions but a number of leads included and 2 CDs -
one labelled PP2000
and one labelled PP2000 V47 DiagBox 6.01

any thoughts on which CD use or is it stuff them in the drive and follow instructions? Perhaps there are 2 sets of software to choose from?

Any helpful advice gratefully received.

Hmmm.... well got PP2000 uploaded...not sure of the version etc. and I think the PC is talking to the diagnostic box, but do I need to have it plugged into the car as I launch the applications?

It's not wanting to go anywhere after I've put in build code/VIN - said it couldn't launch PP Diagnostic and choosing PP it just seems to do nothing after the little whirring cogs icon appears and disappears.

Any ideas?

Cheers,

Jonty
