Handbrake centering? pins

Hey folks so the pins holding my handbrake shoes worked loose and disappeared some time ago now due to an elongated hole in the back plate. I need to sort out. I have read here about the possibility of using a nut / bolt combo with washers to secure however I am concerned this will be far too rigid - I guess the original pin is designed to pivot a little on the back plate as it is not a pivot point on the actual shoes, have a got this right? Anyway tried this?
The only other way I can see is to weld a bit of plate or a washer in with a new suitably shaped hole..

Any ideas or experience appreciated!

I & others have been successfully using this setup for years,
I use M5 stainless countersunk caps,
From memory 45mm long with M5 st/st C type washers & M5 st/st nyloc nuts.
I machined two little st/st countersunk top hats to locate the springs but it's not essential (just I can).

The important thing is not to tighten the nut and bolt to much,
just enough to put the spring under tension to keep the brake shoes in place whilst allowing the shoes to move freely :)

Do you still have the short stubby springs that keep the shoes pushed against the backplate?
Replacements are available in a kit for about £6 - unless you can think of an alternative spring.....
