Hi to all

Hi,

Bought a 406 2.0 HDi LX (110) Estate as a daily runner while I continue work on a Landy rebuild.
Surprised at how good the motor is; will be looking to do some mods to help the engine breathe and probably a little remap.

Already had a look round the forum, looks awesome for troubleshooting which I'll no doubt, need. Thanks to the admin for keeping this resource rolling into the naughties!

Yeah no kidding.

Previous/other cars include:
1973 Land Rover Lightweight (bored out 2.5 Petty) (garaged)
1997 Peugeot 405 1.9 NA (I think it was a 1.9....) (scrapyard heaven after 300k)
1998 Land Rover Defender 110 300TDI County (rebuild in progress)
2005-built Bowler Tomcat (custom) 200TDI (garaged)
2010 Jeep Grand Cherokee Ltd Ed. (sold)
2014 VW Golf 1.6TD (missuses car)

Have to say, as an all-round workhorse that cost just under £300 I'm struggling to find any major downsides.

Sure, the engine breathing could be better, and there's a spot of oil or two on the interior cloth, and the radio connectors need some TLC; but for £300....... And considering it's rust free, is cheap to insure, offers incredible fuel economy....and my personal favorite: little to no threat of someone stealing/breaking into your car!

I'm sold on it.

Hope I get to contribute to the community on here.

Hi, welcome ( a bit belated, sorry )

The 406 is a cracking motor, such a good car for so little money and underrated by many drivers of German blandness...

I have kept my 406's going for little outlay and doing jobs myself because of all the information and kindness here on the forum - I'm sure you can also benefit from us lot too...
1999 T4 family wagon
2002 Citroen Xsara Picasso Hdi90
2003 Hdi110 Executive estate
1998 406 V6 Coupe - Midlife crisis..!
PP2000 user, can help with faults / diagnostics in the Bournemouth area.

Welcome to the forum

My last 406 Hdi has covered 246,000 miles, I have done over 60k of that and its been virtually trouble free, wonderful engines, almost bomb proof. Its now off the road with and electronic problem, I stopped using it for a while and it got damp, still trying to solve the problem but am not to confident.

Providing you don't get that trouble I reckon they represent the best value for money of any second hand car on the market today.
