Should we allow the use use of animated avatars?

No, it's not fair on those of us with crap computers.

Seriously though I do feel rather bad that Welly's having an a hard time with the animated gifs. D'ya reckon we should choose not to use them? It does mean getting rid or the arse though

  so true yet so cruel.

Hold on a mo, they all stopped working on my pc at home too, I got so pee'd off web pages crashing my pc I'd made it almost impossible for programs to do anything in my browser. When I reset the security settings (Internet Options - Security - Custom Level) it all went right again, I seldom use the damn thing anymore so it's in no danger.

They look sh*t and take huge amounts of bandwidth and (if you have 50-odd browser tabs open) ram

I'd go for the compromise of just a simple 50KB limit on sigs and 10KB on avatars. Makes it a lot cheaper to read the forum on a mobile connection!

You're always going to get animated adverts anyway. What about switching off images? Not ideal, I know.

But the fact is websites are getting bigger and more image dependant.
