Re: Hi from a first time 406 owner!

I'm not sure it's Moonstone, unless the bonnet is rusted out on the front edge, looks like plain silver on a cloudy day... Try driving slowly with the handbrake on, only for 10 secs or so - I used to do that whilst in traffic, it helps the shoes bite better. Secondly, I would unplug the MAF sensor -...

Re: Hi from a first time 406 owner!

Hi, and welcome - quite possibly the most in-depth introduction I've ever read :cheesy: Ditching the Laguna for the 406, and subsequently only being £71 out of pocket is a cracking result.... Enjoy the 406 ( I've had a few and I've abused them all with dump trips, family fun* holidays, sofas on the ...

Re: Rear doors on year 2000 406

Yes, check the check straps. As the rear doors are not used as often as the fronts, the straps can start to size and eventually snap. It's only held on by 4 bolts, 2 you can see but the other 2 will need the door card off to get to them. As Peter said, grease the latches first, as the bit that sprin...

Re: N75 valve on 2.2 DW12 2.2 HDi engine

Are the vacuum pipes fitted the right way round on the solenoid to the left of the airbox? When the engine is running, the little ball and socket should be laying backwards, nearly horizontal - and when you rev the engine then it should lift up to the vertical position. If it does the opposite then ...

Re: and today i have mostly been...

Funnily enough, I had no bullying issues in my old estate - and if someone was trying to prove themselves I simply put them in their place ( normally behind me.... ) However, since I now drive the Coupé - it seems a target for eejits on the road, and people parking really close to me.. Is it ...

Re: Ebay Etc. Just "Run-In" 406s

Going back a few years, if you were to type in 406 on eBay to look for a second hand one - there would be pages and pages of them. Last time I looked there was about 10 for sale.... Either there are not many left, or the people that own one are hanging onto it as it's worth more to them than ...

Is the bulb in upside down? Or not in squarely?
Don't laugh, it's a common mistake and makes the beam go haywire....

Re: Immobiliser bypass help

I'm pretty certain that once the car is started then you can unplug the keypad ( with the engine running ) and it will bypass it. However, this doesn't answer your problem about getting it started in the first place - have you had a chat with a Peugeot dealer to see if there is a way of finding it t...

Re: 406 LX 2.0 HDI

Hi, and a belated welcome from me. Your motor looks alright to me, and as said the 406 is a lot of car for the money. That throttle clip is a right pain - it's always the first thing I check when doing a diagnostic on a 406 - I used to carry a spare one slid under the rubber bonnet stop :cheesy: As ...

Re: Rear abs oroblem

My friend had the same issue - eventually the fault was found in the main footwell connection under the drivers carpet near the pedals... I'm not saying it's definitely your issue, but it's something to bear in mind. If your mechanic can get a replacement sensor, he can simply plug it in to the conn...

Re: Low Brake fluid warning.

I agree - it's a fairly common thing, although I haven't experienced it yet.
As stated, you can remove the switch on the glove box ( it only puts the light on inside anyway ) and swap it with the handbrake switch - if it's fixed then get another switch to put in the glove box :cheesy:

Re: N75 valve on 2.2 DW12 2.2 HDi engine

Hi. The LQ is attached to the bottom of the airbox - the CH is bolted the engine just to the left of the airbox (unless you have a Coupé then it's under the airbox on a separate bracket) The CH is the solenoid that opens and closes the swirl flap, however the 2 bigger spouts are prone to breaking of...
