Re: 406 LX 2.0 HDI

Looking at your bottom picture... The part you have undone is the heat exchanger - the EGR is closed when the engine is cold and the hot exhaust travels along this before going into the engine to heat the coolant water quicker. ( You can just see the coolant pipe underneath and clearly see the other...

Re: N75 valve on 2.2 DW12 2.2 HDi engine

It over 400 Nm when remapped - it makes for effortless driving and steep hills a doddle. I was coming back from Cornwall a few years back - me, the wife, our son and both my wife's parents, full boot and a roofbox on top - some Muppet in an X5 BMW tried to not let me past him on one of the hills by ...

Re: N75 valve on 2.2 DW12 2.2 HDi engine

Yes, it's a variable vane set-up like the VW engines but uses vacuum to use it, not boost.

Towing a caravan should have no effect, I've pulled vans out of ditches with mine......

Re: N75 valve on 2.2 DW12 2.2 HDi engine

Okay. The better the vacuum supply to the turbo, the better the response - so by sorting the vacuum leaks then the car should perform better. By your description you may have a boost leak ( possibly uncovered a weak spot but as the turbo is better it's blown a pipe with the pressure ) It's very rare...

Re: EGR Valve?

Basically, yes :cheesy: Without vacuum the EGR won't open when instructed, so it can't stick and can't put dirty exhaust gases back into the engine ( I've blanked this EGR on all my diesel engines ) and as a bonus there shouldn't be any more black smoke once accelerating away once it's been booted a...

Re: EGR Valve?

Hi, it certainly sounds like it could be a sticking EGR, as you have said it's only on occasions it happens... The EGR is normally closed, and uses vacuum to open it, so it's a common thing to remove or blank the vacuum to prevent it from opening ( or getting stuck open ) This is simply a case of re...

I too join the relevant forums for whichever car I own..
I tried to join a Meriva club but never got a confirmation email...
Still waiting for a reply from a Skoda forum, it's been 6 years now.
It certainly makes you appreciate this one.

Re: 406 LX 2.0 HDI

Well spotted Rich, should be easy enough to Flash a new map onto it - Hdi tuning should be able to to supply a remap giving you about 120bhp.

Re: N75 valve on 2.2 DW12 2.2 HDi engine

That's a good guide, I've done many other people's 406s to simplify the vacuum system ( I also did a how-to on the Coupé forum - search for how to simplify the vacuum system ) The CH is the one that controls the swirl, it can easily be bypassed but it means the little ball and arm on the engine is f...

Re: N75 valve on 2.2 DW12 2.2 HDi engine

Okay.
Can you get the garage to bypass the swirl solenoid, this will disable the swirl diaphragm which is prone to losing vacuum.
I'm happy to have a look at it if you are local.

It's probably a 6 year old that put the bulb in.....
It's possible to do without removing anything, just a little awkward.

Yes, it's different.
By fixing one issue, you may have uncovered an underlying one - which is a pain.
Let us now how you get on.

Re: 406 LX 2.0 HDI

Yours is the Hdi90, which is a mechanical controlled waste gate on the turbo - no complicated vacuum leaks or intercooler on your engine, so boost leaks are easy to spot but also quite unusual... Have you blanked your EGR valve - this will help the black smoke in future ( the EGR is exhaust gas reci...

Re: Hi from a first time 406 owner!

I didn't use the auto headlights - I found myself parked up with headlights on for no reason was annoying when I saw it so I couldn't really do the same to other people.. That sill strip, you need to sort that out before winter really as water gets into the sills in the little holes behind the rubbe...

Re: Hi from a first time 406 owner!

One positive part of the 406 is the heater - it's normally pretty good. The indicator stalk is part of the Comms unit, which is a weakness as you have discovered they wear out and play silly buggers - a new stalk can be fitted but it means ripping apart this Comms unit where loads of wires and the a...
