Re: New member

Hi and welcome to the forum. My opinion of 406's is well known, I think they are the best buy on the secondhand market, especially the diesels, the 2.0. particularly as it has all the advantages of a direct injection with very few of the disadvantages and they seem to last forever and are very relia...

Re: A different radio problem

I have the same problem with mine, I suspect the amplifier has gone faulty, 9 volts ought to be enough to make it work, I have been without a radio except in very strong signal areas for probably a year or more. Mine is an estate with the aerial at the back, not the easiest to get at.

Re: Rock hard brake pedal !!!

Failure of the vacuum pump will affect the turbo boost as well, so if yours goes OK it will be a servo fault.

Re: Buzzing noise

It will probably be a heater flap motor. The temperature one is pretty active most of the time, try changing the temperature when its doing it - or not doing it. If its not that could be another flap motor stacking.

Re: A MAF sensor.....why bovver?

The best buy is a secondhand original from ebay, rarely are they faulty. I have a set of resistance measurements between the pins to check them.

Why does it keep doing this?

I would agree - unless you have a degree in digital electronics.

To be honest I run mine nearer 30 psi to give a better ride, have done for many years, and I still get 20-30k miles from them.

A small screwdriver is what I usually use but a mirror is also helpful.

Re: Having to slam estate tailgate

Adjusting the striker plate should fix this, there should be a couple of screws into the floor which when loosen'd will allow the latch to move for and aft, move out away from the car slightly then tighten the screws, not to far out though or it will rattle. You could try applying a little oil or gr...

Re: Peugeot 406 2.0 HDI 90HP, cold start problem

I apologise if this has already been mentioned but I couldn't see it. On the back of the HP pump is a pressure regulator which also contains a very fine strainer which can become clogged and gives rise to all sorts of problems including poor starting, I had no end of trouble with the one on my C5, s...

Try the 'French Car Forum' Jim on there has a good knowledge of these pumps and Paul on the 'Citroen XM Forum' may well have one.

Re: The GTX has been sick

Unless the engine is generating a lot of heat i.e. working hard, the bottom of the radiator will be cold as the thermostat will be at least partially shut as the area of the radiator that is hot is sufficient to dispel the heat. As regards your water loss the worst fear is a leaky head gasket, if th...

Re: No communication with engine ECU

Can't help with the PP2000 fault as neither of mine work but the fault with turbo boost is very often the vacuum supply. Mine had no power below 2000 rpm which I eventually found was due to a faulty vacuum pump but it can be caused by split rubber pipes that run along the back of the engine. Can you...
