Re: fan motor resistor, compressor, blower motor resistor, thermostat

My aircon does the same, runs cold until you turn it off, I didn't know it was supposed to do otherwise. Regarding you cooling fans, is the engine getting hot enough to initiate both fans on full?

Re: Sluggish and surging?

Try disconnecting the MAF first and see if that evens it out. Has the fuel filter been changed lately?

It may possible be the same as the 2.0 Hdi, most of the rest of the system is.

Re: Tyre profile

You really need a set of 15" wheels which is what most 406's use anyway, all of mine have anyway, yours must be a late one. They use 195/65/15" which do give a better ride. I have to drive over a forest track to reach the road so I understand your problem. Your choice of tyres makes a lot of differe...

Re: Now look who's got a Volvo...

Looks very comfortable. Due to the lack of 406's at a sensible price I've bought a c220 cdi estate, very similar to the 406 in simplicity, no DPF or DMF goes well and returns better mpg than the 406 and it has a timing chain. Before you delete me we still have a 406, the wife's car - and mine a lot ...

Re: Radio too loud (RD3 PU2473A)

Don't know about codes but it sounds as though your amp is being over driven. Is their a low level output for and amp or is it being driven from the speaker output, you need a level of about 600 mv.

Hi and welcome to the forum

You shouldn't have to much trouble getting your car fixed - if necessary as they are quite basic compared with more modern cars. I have a Hdi estate which is on 211,000 miles and still going well, so they last. One of the best used cars on the market in my opinion.

Personally if it drive's OK I wouldn't worry about it - except first thing in the morning  if it is stiff it should 'wear in' eventually, if not it may manifest itself after you have put some miles on it.

Re: HOW MANY MILES HAS YOUR PUG COVERED?

Mine is on 211,000 with very few problems except that the o/s sill has just fallen apart, never had rust in a 406 before, its going in to be repaired on Monday, I don't trust myself welding anything that thin.

Re: Intermitent Clunking from N/S front, on Hard right hand turn

It certainly sounds like the CV joint, if it had been the o/s I would have suggested possibly the centre bearing. Presumably you took the shaft out when you changed the joint, what did the inner joint feel like? It sounds like lack of lubrication due to the grease having gone hard, never had that pr...

Re: humming noise

Bearings will not normally be noisy unless there is weight on them. The case hardening goes on the surface leaving lots of little pits and under pressure the ball fall into them as they rotate. I fitted a new rear bearing in my wife's 206 less than a year ago and its whining again, first time I have...

Re: The Price of Diesel

If you shop a Tesco watch out for the '10p per litre off' offer. We have had two lots in the last month, quite a saving. Otherwise I tend to fill up at Trago Mills, only in the westcountry although I believe although they were talking about building one in Wales, they are usually 2 or 3p cheaper tha...

Re: New 'stricter' MOTs...

I took my estate in yesterday, normally it goes straight through, not this time, my friendly MOT man said, looking at the o/s sill 'I can see a hole' 'so can I', I said, by the time he had finished prodding it half the sill was laying on the floor, quite a shock, apart from the front edge of the bon...
