Re: Newbie

Iv'e been running 406 Hdi estates for getting on for 10 years and I think they are the best car Peugeot ever made - with the exception of the handbrake. I haven't had one with a good handbrake yet, I think the linings are the problem, you need really soft ones but I don't know who makes them. The br...

Re: Heater plug relay

It's basically just a high current relay and they are all mostly the same unless it contains any electronics. The usual problem is that the contacts don't make properly, you really need to address them with a fine file or wet & dry paper, sometimes they don't work properly because the heat generated...

Re: power loss

You have about the simplest and easiest to repair common rail engine, try some of the newer ones . These engines are normally very reliable but check that you actually have vacuum at the turbo actuator or at least at the solenoid by pulling the pipe of and seeing if you can feel the vacuum, i...

Re: Anyone want to take 2003 Diesel 406 Estate off my hands?

I could be interested if I could get someone to transport it for a reasonable price. I will make some enquiries, if I can will come and have a look at it.

Re: Key fob not working

You need to find someone with a Lexia/ PP2000, its sounds as though it is out of sync with the receiver. My 406 remote stopped working after I had left the car parked up for a while but haven't bothered to try and fix it yet. It could be that the plip is not working, if you know any radio hams or an...

Re: Alternator smells

Certainly sounds like it. Is it getting hot? possibly short circuit diodes. If you have a multimeter connect it in series with the lead from the battery to the alternator (disconnect the lead and connect that to one meter lead and the other to the point you disconnected it from) on the 'amps range, ...

Could be leaking into the brake servo if no sign of a external leak.

Re: My baby finally got a pic

Very nice. I should squirt some oil into the inside front edge of your bonnet, will stop the rust coming through.

Re: Engine swap

Very rarely do head gaskets fail on these but I have seen a couple and your symptoms would suggest that's the problem. I would concur with previous posts about changing the engine, Its difficult to get the original to run if it has an electronic problem so changing it could open a whole can of worms...

Re: intermittent non starting - again!

You could try driving it without the needle valve in the pump but you would have to stall it to stop, but it might prove something.

I wouldn't worry about it, I have never had a 406 gearbox fail.

Re: 406 exec Estate gearbox

Yep, I have two '51 reg almost identical estates, on has reverse on the left the other on the right, most confusing when I change cars. I thought the l/h reverse was the later box but apparently not as my wife has an 03, 206 and that has the r/h side reverse.

Same colour as the two I have. It is indeed in very good condition, if it was an Hdi I might well be interested myself.
