Re: Immobiliser activated, car won't fire

If you have a leak quite a large quantity of water can collect under the drivers side carpet and there are a number of connectors there that can become completely immersed.

Re: humming noise

If it only does it when cornering in one direction it will most likely be a wheel bearing, its the tyres it will usually do it all the time and vary on different road surfaces.

Re: Ebay Etc. Just "Run-In" 406s

I think that's largely due to those stupid low profile tyres that some people think look good but give a terrible ride and 'tramline', also break when you run over a tree branch.

Re: Fuel (diesel) woes.

The fuel pressure regulator is on the back of the HP pump but not difficult to remove. there are usually a few secondhand ones available on ebay for not to much money.https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_from ... i&_sacat=0

Re: Ebay Etc. Just "Run-In" 406s

I agree modern cars are much nicer to drive and be in, but they are also much more complicated. The 406 is a good 'transition' car in that its common rail with the associated improvement in fuel consumption but it doesn't have a DPF making it that much more reliable and cheaper to maintain, but at t...

I would concur. In my youth you could just glance at a car and immediately know the make and type - now they all seem to look the same.

Re: Ebay Etc. Just "Run-In" 406s

There are very few 406 Hdi estates fort sale now and a lot of those that are have a ridiculous price tag and are 90 hp or pre march 51 so attract high road tax. My last two I paid around £400 for, one I sold the other I am still running and will do for the foreseeable future, many are being advertis...

Re: Horn failure after COM 2000 repair

You should be able to pick up a 12v supply from the internal fusebox.. Check for one that comes on with the ignition - at least 10 amps, take the fuse out, solder a wire onto the blade and re insert it so that the wire is on the fused end.

Re: Mot headlight fail headache

If its an estate do you know there is a headlight height adjuster under the dashboard by the steering wheel, it adjusts both sides of course but useful to remember.

Re: Hi from a first time 406 owner!

I have had three and none had a decent handbrake, they are of poor design with not enough lining area. They must have been fitted with very soft linings when new - all you have to do is find out who makes them. :frown:

Re: Hi from a first time 406 owner!

Welcome to the forum. You have got probably the best secondhand car in the world there, certainly the best that Peugeot has made and that's the way to buy them, I have had three. Came back from a 2500 mile trip round Scotland and Yorkshire a couple of weeks ago, averaged 62.8 mpg - but not everyone ...

Re: Rear doors on year 2000 406

Are the check straps still on the doors? Its unusual for them to fail altogether, they will more likely break. If they are still there you could try greasing them, maybe the latching mechanism is stuck.

Re: Ebay Etc. Just "Run-In" 406s

Mostly down to rust I think, some of the earlier cars were likely made of better metal and later ones were galvanised. I ran XMs for about 15 years then all of a sudden they started falling to pieces. No rust in the 406's - yet.

Re: Ebay Etc. Just "Run-In" 406s

406's seem to be getting very thin on the ground now, during our recent 2,500 mile trip round Scotland and Yorkshire I didn't see another one, saw a couple down here when we got home though. There are a few for sale on the net but mostly the same ones by different advertisers. Changed the injectors ...

Re: sluggish starting

If its a reduction gear gear type starter which I think most of them are when the grease in the motor gearbox dries up it will cause slow rotation, a little gear oil in there usually speeds it up.
