Re: Suddenly no rear fog lights

Thanks for the reply. Yes they were working, or at least one was prior to me changing the o/s lamp assembly, after a number of tries, I took the dustbins down to the farm last night, tried the fog lights but only the front ones came on again although the rear ones were indicated as 'on' on the panel...

Suddenly no rear fog lights

My friendly MOT tester pointed out that I had one very bright tail lamp and the other one didn't work at all, simples I thought. The bright one had the wrong bulb in it, they use half a stop/tail bulb and this had a 21w lamp fitted. The other side was severely corroded so I fitted the assembly from ...

Re: 406's.........the future is bleak!!

There are are still people looking for them - at sensible prices. Put it on ebay with a reserve or 'make offer' price, I'm sure someone will want it. Have a look on there and see what they are selling for.

Re: 406's.........the future is bleak!!

There are still quite a few about on ebay but some at silly prices, there are still some reasonably priced ones though but you may have to travel - but I usually do to get what I want. I broke with convention recently and bought a C220 Cdi merc estate 2001. I paid 490 pounds for it for it with 11 mo...

Re: Third gear

Seconded, although if its only in third the synchro ring is probably worn. Does it go into the other gears without baulking? If its the synchro it will probably be worse when cold, the thicker oil causes drag which can slow the box down.

Re: How many forum users still actually drive a 406

I do occasionally but its my wife's regular driver, it was mine to until I got this Merc but there are a number of aspects where the 406 is better. Its quieter and rides better, the seats are more comfortable as are the headlights. The merc is faster and slightly better on fuel which surprises me bu...

Re: Life span of catalytic converter?

I have a C220 diesel with 231k miles and the original cat, but having said that it keeps going into limp mode and I pretty sure that its because the cat is clogged and causing back pressure. Mind you with the 6 speed manual box it will do 70 mph at 2000 rpm which is about as fast as I want to go, an...

Air re-circulation flap doesn't

When I started using my new 406 estate I found, or at least my wife did that sometimes the windscreen steams up although you could clear it by putting the aircon on it was quite severe. My first thought was leaking heater matrix, but fortunately not. I was looking at the air intake in the scuttle fo...

Re: driverside lock for central locking ?

Mine is the same, I think the lock mechanism has become disengaged as it feels normal when you turn the key but doesn't do anything but haven't got round to looking at it yet.

Re: Rear Anti-Roll Bar Clamps Parts Availability

I have just let a friend have the two from my scrap car as there just don't seem to be any available. I have been looking at others that might do but they are not 'normal' brackets in that one side appears to be longer than the other. I think your only source will be the breakers, my scrap car is a ...

Re: Fuel Filler Flap

'Omega' came up with the same solution as me and probably the simplest. Cut a length from a fairly weak coil spring of appropriate diameter and fit one end under one of the self tappers opposite the flap. You can experiment with the length and strength to get give the right amount of 'push'. When yo...
