Re: 406 estate, heater blower just stopped this morning.

I had this problem recently, turned out to be melted contacts in the ignition switch. Eventually it failed with the keys in, engine running and unable to turn engine off or turn keys to remove them.
Replaced switch with new unit from Ebay and blower working again. 99 hdi 110.

Re: front top mount bearing seized

Job done, Thought about Jaspers method of doing the NSF strut removal and did it differently. I took the wheel off, removed pinch bolt then placed a second jack under the bottom suspension arm and jacked up until the car was only just about to lift off axle stands. Then put the coil compressor on an...

Re: front top mount bearing seized

Well, 4 hours and both rear control arms replaced, OSF strut removed new bearing fitted and strut replaced. Everything came apart easily and went back easily. Old bearing was unrecognisable, just a pile of rust but the top spring seat and top cap were in good nick. Loads of very strong painkillers n...

Re: front top mount bearing seized

I think I found the answer re socket, I was confused with the special tool to remove the ball joint so I think it is just a normal socket. Of course, I may be wrong.

Re: front top mount bearing seized

Thanks Jasper,
Is it just a standard socket needed for bottom ball joint, 22mm? I have the 35mm socket and torque key sockets for top bolts.

Re: front top mount bearing seized

Thanks for the advice Peter, I found a place in Bristol that had one set of bearings only, so I have enough for both sides, for £28 1st class post, so ordered those. I couldn't find any local motor factors selling just the bearings, full top mount kit only at £56 each. Bought a heavy duty spring com...

front top mount bearing seized

Hi, Failed MOT today, 99 plate genuine 126k, both front top mount bearings seized. Quoted £448 to replace these and rear radius arms. Rear arms aren't a problem, how hard is it to do the top mounts? Will it need a complete unit, quote £56 each, or can I just replace the bearings? Also failed on a re...

heater fan

The blower on my heater has stopped working. I read that the ignition switch can cause problems like this so after checking fuses which were all ok I wiggled the steering column while the engine was running and the fan worked properly. Instead of stripping out for switch has anybody bypassed the swi...

DMF gone

Hi, not been on the board in a while, still got the Hdi estate, 99 plate and 115k. DMF has gone, thought it might have been the bottom engine mount as I looked at it and it was well shot so I replaced that but it wasn't the problem. Taking off causes a lot of vibration and pumping through the clutch...

Re: Brake dust

To Captain Jack, mesothelioma is always fatal no matter when it is diagnosed. It can stay dormant for up to 50 years. Hi Welly, Solicitors have been working with hospital and now coroner since September last year. Waiting for inquest verdict, due end of this summer. We have a good QC, very experienc...

Re: Brake dust

Thank you to everyone who commented on my post. What made my wife's mesothelioma so unusual was the fact that her lungs were unaffected, no breathing issues and no pain at any time. The tumor had encased the heart and was restricting it's movement. At post mortem it was found that the lungs and stom...

Brake dust

Hi, I haven't been around the forum much since January 14 because my wife was taken ill suddenly and unexpectedly. What has that got to do with brake dust I hear you say? Well she died of Pericardial Mesothelioma, very rare form of mesothelioma, Google it. You can only get mesothelioma, it is cancer...

Re: MOT time again

Fixed and shiny new ticket acquired. Bulb hadn't actually blown, wiggled outer lens without taking it out and bulb lit and has been fine since. Slammed rear seat into place and centre seat belt magically fixed itself. So a jubilee clip from the toolbox sorted the power steering leak and a new track ...

MOT time again

Just failed the mot, nothing major, registration plate bulb, power steering pipe leak, jubilee clip fix, centre seat belt, rear, not retracting properly and near side upper track control arm. Advisories on handbrake, 16%, cables are free so just needs adjustment, 2 rear tyres wearing, minor exhaust ...

Re: Dpf non 406

Okay, having had the tank refilled, £180, a new problem has reared it's head. The message on the mfd wont turn off. The poxy control unit behind the fuel filler cap is knackered. Cost, another £140. This brings up the cost of the eolys refill to £320. Take my advice and get the whole lot removed. :e...
