UPDATE: WAS NOT ENGINE SEIZURE OR DROPPED VALVE, JUST SHOWS HOW PEOPLE CAN GO DOWN THE WRONG TRACK OF CLUES !! IS THIS THE END !!!! WENT TO THE CAR THIS MORNING WOULD NOT START, ONLY TURNED OVER SLIGHTLY, CALLED THE BREAKDOWN GUYS OUT , THEY SAID BATTERY FULLY CHARGED, PUT HIS BATTERY PACK ON ,STILL NO JOY ! sluggish starting

My car is a 110 hdi 2001 done 170k just recently the car has started to be sluggish when starting, never had a problem before, had the car 8 yrs Its had a recon starter 50k ago new battery less than a year ago AC delco alternator 40 k ago the battery is 12.7 v when stood 14.2 v under load so alterna...

Got he tie rods checked the n/s one was nakt had it replaced and 4 wheel tracked
watched the guy set the toe in on the rear wheels, lets hope the rear tyre wear evens out now
It has totally stopped the nocking noise from the rear, magic :)

total cost £380 lets hope it was worth it? both strut top mount bearing nakt, most likely caused spring failure So work done : new strut top mounts / bearings (both) 2 new springs drop link n/s driveshaft boot flexi hose n/s supplied parts: 2 new rear calipers + pad pins 2 rear drop links new piston...

Not good: when n/s spring snapped it did some damage it needs: drop link, drive shaft boot, flexi brake pipe, top bearing/mount (most of ball bearing fell out) , getting the other spring done as well ! so with the cost of getting the the brake bits fitted as well, I'm looking at decent sized bill ! ...

update: Had the car booked in to get the brakes sorted tomorow, just got the car started in car park when finished work tonight and CRACK, the car is going nowhere ! front spring snapped, had to get it recovered to the garage. to get that sorted as well !!! ££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££...

Cheers, will check it out !, I did notice the other day the rear tyres are wearing more on the outer edge !

rear suspension

when I go over a bump/hole in the road there is a heavy thump from the rear suspension ,which has got noticeably louder lately
The car has 167k on it , and never had anything done to the suspension am I right in thinking the rear shocks are shot or could it be something else ?
any ideas ???

thanks for the info guys, think I'm going to fit the new rears for £83. free postage (no returning old ones as they are new) and as you say you can free the old ones and poss sell them on ! :wink:
trying to find front ones ?? for a good price ??

advice on caliper overhaul kits needed

I have a 2001 hdi 110 saloon , its done 165k Its time I got the calipers all round overhauled , as I 'm getting sick of the squeeling, rubbing sounds around the car. Does anybody know of a good place to get overhaul kits from including the pistons, sliders etc, also looking on the interweb there see...

relieved O to have the old car back, how you can over think things without double checking the obvious !!! :frown: :frown:
Just taken the car out for a run up the road after rechecking the throttle cable and the power is back, I had forgot how well it can go :D Job done !

just checked the vacuum pressure from the pump and its at 25 at tick over to 30 in-Hg when I rev it a bit. so the pump cannot be the problem ? just checked the throttle cable spring clip again and its has come off somehow ! :frown: so that wouldn't help, so stuck a tie-wrap on to hold that in place!...

never had anything to do with the solenoids before but I pulled the hose off the egr sol from the egr valve to check vac , could not feel any vac even using a piece of paper ! but when I repeatedly reconnected and disconnected the hose I could hear the egr valve clicking ? does this mean there is en...
