Re: 508

The 407 should have been the Citroen C5 it's so odd. It's definitely difficult to live with, but Iove the rather odd and laid back driving position, the light cabin, and the bi-turbo is brilliant. 265 mile round trip in the 508 today and it needed two regens -- although one was right at the start an...

Re: 508

Prepare to be bored: Trip computer says 97.2mpg over 300 miles yesterday. The 407 (2.2 HDi 170 (Bosch)) usually does about 60mpg driven the same way (slowly) on the same journey. It's the 2.0 HDi 140 (Delphi) and it feels a lot like driving my 406 HDi 90: nothing until 1800 and out of puff at 3000. ...

Re: 508

It hadn't moved for three weeks and I've always been convinced that the worst thing you can do with a car is not use it, so I've gassed it up (£90) and it'll be doing about 550 miles over the next three days.

Re: Hello 1st time 406 owner

Does anybody know how to convert between the XXXX.YY ServiceBox numbers and the actual part numbers (which are the long numbers that begin with a 9)?

It's plug and play, but be careful matching a replacement as there are dozens of subtly different ones.

I don't get it.

I see the ESP error. Do you have an ABS sensor out?

Re: ORIGINAL BATTERY JUST DIED! Advice for Replacement

How are you finding the solar charger?

Our bastard 307 from hell drains its battery if not used every day. I tried a solar charger but it didn't make any difference.

Re: ORIGINAL BATTERY JUST DIED! Advice for Replacement

The radio does not need recoding after losing power. (Specifically, the radio is VIN coded to the car so it only needs coding when you put in a different radio.) Wait for the BSI to power down before disconnecting the battery. There are various folk lores about the exact procedure. E.g., http://www....

End of an era indeed.

Have you worn out all the 2.2 406s or do you think there might be another left?

It's German; if it wasn't supposed to do that then they wouldn't make it that way.

Re: Fuel choice for your next car?

My established modus operandi appears to be £5k and run it until it's dead which seems to involve about 150k miles over 8 years. Right now a 3.0 HDi in a Jag XF is starting to be gettable in that price range. If I can live with a slushmatic. However, I like the 407. C6 curious. (It's basically a 407...

Re: How many forum users still actually drive a 406

We have a 508. It replaced the bastard 307cc from hell. Which replaced a lovely 407 2.2 petrol in burgundy with cream leather. Long story. Don't get me started... Short version: The 508 is a more worthy successor to the 406 than was the 407. The 508 is 'normal' whereas the 407 is so wacky and French...

And if that kills it then I'll be shopping for a 406.
Not sure you'll find a decent one? :?
I wouldn't really expect to find a decent anything on the anticipated budget.
